They have a course starting on August 24th!

No, I meant they might want to have the new reports from another doctor but they should have said something about it if that was the case.

I was tentatively booked to travel in July (but I am flying in August) it seems they are really buissy and 1 month delayed about the DOJ.

Questions regarding X Ray reports

To those who had done their medicalsand gotten their reports,

may i ask with regards to the thoracic spine reports, who is the one to pen down the comments?

The radiologists or orthopedic specialists? Any different?

Thanks.

bunny_gal
10th Jul 2009, 13:22
WFTG

My xray report was commented by the radiologist.
You only consult a specialist if you need to further understand your report. A specialist can note/comment on the problem more accurately.

Not to worry ya :)

I made through the final interview and I didn't get any answer and a friend of mine did a yes mail...so is it a NO for me? Do they send only congrats mails or sorry mails too??

Leticc
10th Jul 2009, 14:28
Don´t worry they will let you know, if they didn`t reply the same date than your friend, it doesn`t mean that you haven`t been successful! Anyway they send "sorry" mails too. :}

The visa, which you actually have to print out, would be sent to your email.

Hello,

Well first they asked me to retake the HBs Ag test, since it only said: hepatitis B, I called the DR and they told me that that is what they took (the antigen test) so they just resent the results.

She forwarded all the results and it took like 10 days for them to reply saying the doctors requested for me to repeat the ECG graph and get a cardiologist evaluation, no further details were provided.
I took it again and went to the specialist and everything was fine, sent them and it took like 2 weeks for them to say they were forwarding the results to the medical center (I believe my officer was on vacations), then it took 9 days to get medical clearance.

I saw the e-mails when I woke up (I'm in America), replied and they sent me the offer right away I believe it was around 6pm Qatar time. I still don't receive my visa.

So just be patient, it took a long time for me but at the end it's worth it.

Hello

To those sending their meds, this is what happened to me.

Sent everything off as one email 10 days AGO. I found out yday that it wasn't received. So the nice lady asked me to send everything off one by one AGAIN. I cant believe i wasted all that time not knowinG . I asked for a confirmation letter for the meds and whEn i hadn't heard a peep, i gave them a quick ring.

So good advice to you lot

ALWAYS MAKE A FOLLOW UP CALL/EMAIL IF YOU HAVE NOT HEARD BACK ABOUT YOUR MEDS

ALL EMAILS SHOULD CONTAIN NO MORE THAN 1000 KB WORTH OF DATA. (As advised by the lovely lady in Doha)

Cheers to more waiting then....of course my fault

:ooh: oh and congratz to all those that got their DOJ. Well done guys! I pray we get our soon!

Bye for now...

Hi Everyone and congrats to all those who've made it through!

I just received my congratulations email and to go ahead with medicals (I attended the open day in Brisbane on 22nd June)... one problem though, I flew to Brisbane for the interview and somewhere in the craziness have misplaced the medical clearance form they give you in the interview to take to the doctor to fill out! :uhoh:

Does anyone happen to have a blank one they can send me a copy of somehow or know where i can get one from? Would be much appreciated!

Also, has anyone else from the Brisbane open day received a congrats email? Good luck everyone :)

victoriakate
11th Jul 2009, 07:48
when you recived the congratulations email you should have 2 uniform form attachments and the medical form attached to the email which you can print off

Sydney_Stewardess
11th Jul 2009, 09:44
Thanks VictoriaKate - all I got though was the Female measurement chart and the uniform form. Also it said in my email "You are requested to complete the medical form that you received during the interview and the attached Uniform forms"... Could you please PM me (or anyone else) if you have a copy you can send me via email? Just reading some of these other posts i'm a bit wary of emailing HR for fear they'll take a long time to respond to me as I hear they're very busy and obviously receive a lot of emails and they've given me a week to complete everything.

Thanks again and appreciate the help!

Hi :] I just have a quick question.

Im thinking about applying for Qatar but i read on their website that you need to be 20 years old. Theyre coming here to Cebu this september. But im only 19, turning 20 in January. Should i give it a try or wait till im actually 20?

Emma Gemma
11th Jul 2009, 17:30
Some people seem to get through before their 20th birthday but they actually turn 20 before they finish training. It has to do with Qatar's regulations for serving alcohol.

They might not want to keep your offer on hold from September to January because a lot of things could happen. Having said that, I know of one guy who was 19 when he attended his interview in January but didn't start training in May when he had turn 20.

Is it IPAMS doing the initial screeing? Best thing would be to speak to them.

Leticc
11th Jul 2009, 18:44
In the Open Day held in Buenos Aires this year there was people in your situation, the recruiters said that those who would turn 20 in the next 6 months could stay in the room. So... Give it a try dear!!!:ok:

Having failed to get called on the last Sat( the opening LGW), I've decided to have a go again and am going to the another opening day in Birmingham this week. I have been feeling pretty devastated and upset since then but I will never give up(!)

Please, would anyone give me a tip for the day as I haven't got a clue as to why I failed last week :confused:and it would be much much apreciated.

Cheers everyone¬

Btw, do I have to have my pics professionally done before I submit them?
I wonder whether my pics didn't look professional enough.

usagi27
13th Jul 2009, 16:02
grapefruit!

do not get depressed, i went through the whole thing as you did too: went to the OD and assessment day and failed, got depressed but didnt give up and went to another one later and there i was chosen. so the only thing i can say is dont give up, try to read as much as you can on how things go (read the whole thread on this forum!) and try to appear the kind of person they are looking for.
i think the key to the open day is your appearance: smile like crazy, be confident and look like their flight attendants, be extremely friendly. if you do that they usually call you back...
if the photo is not professional enough they will tell you later on anyways, but try not to give them one on which youre on the beach in a swim suit XD i made my photos myself but exactly how they requested us to do them (posture and clothes i meant, open smile)
good luck on your next time!!!

14th Jul 2009, 08:21
hi jackofan
im really sorry to hear all that. sadly i cant say any more than what i have: its all about appearance on the OD, if you fit for being a CC by appearance or not, thats also a reason why they dont really talk to you and if they do, usually they just check if you can speak english in a nice way with a nice CC manner XD maybe they just also take a quick look at your previous jobs to see if you fit in their range (e.g. if u were an office worker it might not work out..)
about nationality issue or being from somewhere, definitely not. it has nothing to do with the recruitment and indeed sometimes its even better because you speak one more language. i was attending ODs in buenos aires and belgrade and im from hungary..
good luck next time guys!

Hi Jackofan,

Oop:uhoh: I'm much much older than you. If that's the reason, I'll be very angry. as they should have put an age limit indicating which applicants will not be accepted.
What a waste of time and energy we've spent(!)
I still hope that's not the case though :oh:

I'm just about to have my photos done to get ready by this Sat. Let's see how it goes in Birmingham this time. If it still doesn't work, who should I blame but myself:{

Let's pray for ourselves..

usagi27
14th Jul 2009, 11:06
they dont have an age limit, thought if you LOOK 40, they wont want to hire you XD thats the point. if you look youngish its perfectly alright no matter if 30 or above i think.

Emma Gemma
14th Jul 2009, 12:12
They can't put an upper age limit officially because that would be discrimination in Europe. It would be the same if they only put down in the add that they will only be recruiting girls. I can't remember which airline it was but they did it in Australia once and were told by the authorities if they ever wanted to recruit their again they also had to recruit boys and stop their "discrimination".

Age matters a bit but people over their 30's have got through.

Leticc
14th Jul 2009, 12:15
They also will take a look at your CV in the OD, it is important to have expereience in cutomer services, but do not lie in your cv or resume because they ask you to bring to doha certificates or reference letters of previous employers as a proof.

Keep trying: it is an advantage now that you have the experience of an Open Day, you are much better prepared now for the next opportunity!:ok:
Cheers and good luck

My FI is on 4 May.

Everybody who waiting for medical clearance, I understand your feeling but believe me they will contact you as soon as they get the reply from medical center. I think if you are worried, you could ask them for your medical via email. They may answer you what the process of your medical is on now.

Hope to see you all in DOHA soon;)

hi guys
Quick question. i had my final interview on 23rd June in Brisbane. My friend who also had her final interview on the same day got an email last thursday telling her to proceed with her medicals. They told us they would get back to us within three weeks of that day and its now been 3 weeks and 2 days. Does this mean i haven't been successful? Do they contact you either way? I'm wondering why they emailed my friend a week ago and ive heard nothing and there was only 14 of us that actually got through to the final interview from Brisbane. Or is this quite common for them not to get back to you when they say they will...? Im getting grey hairs over this!! haha. Thanks ;)

Emma Gemma
16th Jul 2009, 05:37
No, it doesn't mean that you have been unsuccessful. Her application could have been at the top and that means they would have looked at it before yours. Today is the last working day for them and if you don't hear anything today you might hear something from them on Sunday or onwards.

bunny_gal
16th Jul 2009, 06:21
I wonder if the medical reports were sent via e-mail to the medical centre. Or hard copies, as in the officer will print out all the documents.

Just wondering.

scary news x.x
I got a mail to redo my CBC (as expected because of my abnormal values) and also do a proper chest X-ray report...
Can somebody detail that to me, what is a proper chest X-ray report like? Do I also have to send the X-ray itself?
cheers
(bunny girl this means your medicals are next XD)

i DID send them a sheet of paper made by my doc that said i have no problem with my spine whatsoever, but they told me to send them a PROPER report lol thats why im asking.
my CBC and urine had a lot of bad values that show that i have inflammation: creatinin slightly high and lymph also high, plus stuff in my urine, not much but over the normal (like bacteria or the other stuff in urine)

specifically they didnt ask for a urine test but my GP automaticlly asked for one from the lab so i sent it and since it was abnormal they ask for it again.
maybe you dont even need one!
just wait for their answer

bobo_elg
16th Jul 2009, 13:48
aha then why did you send it even if it is abnormal?? thats bad

Hey you are right! I was next! I got an email from Avina too!
I was told to repeat my Audiogram though. I am certain I don't have hearing problems. :}
But i do notice that some parts of the report was left blank. Probably the reason why.

She told me to send her ASAP. Good luck to you and myself.

Worried

usagi27
17th Jul 2009, 21:50
say guys, especially emma since you know more about these things.
what would happen if they hired me because all my medicals were clear and then when i got to doha and redid the exams my CBC turned out abnormal again. would they send me back home right away? and would they make me pay that huge amount of money that you need to pay if you leave before two years? or this doesnt apply in this case since you didnt even start training yet?
how do these things go?

six romeo alpha
17th Jul 2009, 22:09
USAGI27 - With my Spine x-ray, they requested that the Doctor specifically mentioned that there was 'nothing abnormal with the thoracic spine'. I'm not sure why they're so keen on this, and it took a huge amount of effort to get my doctor to comment on the thoracic spine as he wanted to do a separate spine x-ray instead. May be that is what they don't like with yours?

About the medicals in Doha, you do two: one for the Government and one for the Airline. If you fail the Government, you have to return home as the Government will not let you stay in the country. If you fail the Cabin crew one, they may be able to help find you a non-flying job within Qatar Airways. Although, the reason for doing all the tests before you come out here is to virtually eliminate the chances of failing the medicals here.

Bunny_Gal - Don't worry about the blanks. My hearing is fine and my audiogram had quite a few blanks and I was quite worried when I sent it, but Avina accepted it with no problems. I believe the reports are hard copies for the medical center as I saw mine all printed out when I had my medical

WFTG - The processing order seems a little illogical at times. Patience is the name of the game. They seem to keep us waiting, then telephone you with 6 days notice.

Hope you all get the phone call soon though :ok:

Rob

thks rob..

Also if we were to do any retest, shld we do at the same doc or find a diff doc?I mean we can always ask avina what is not satisfying about the affected report right? Or else the new report will turn out to be unacceptable too right?

Hi guys, going through the same nervewrecking procedures as all of you guys waiting for medical clearance...i was told to re-do my Audiogram and CBC (the same day bunnygal got the email to re-do the tests). I'm really worried as i have some abnormal values in my CBC:ugh:. My hearing is perfectly fine according to the doctor-he was puzzled why i got to re-do the Audiogram as it was perfectly fine:confused: I got the email on the 16th,did the reports on the 17th and sent the results on the 18th-paid extra 25% of the normal charges to get the results within 24 hours:ugh: and the result of the CBC was not that great but the doctor wrote it as normal cos i passed the White blood test,Haemoglobin test and few others, which he said was more important to pass. I really hope all of us get the medical clearance soon. But, i must say Avina was of great help to me. Please don't think too much...it will not help. Have you tried calling Ms Avina to enquire about your medical on why it's taking ages to be cleared? She's really sweet and helpful. I did call her once to enquire on the procedures on doing my medicals and trust me,i don't remember getting slaughtered for that! She cleared all my doubts and was really nice:ok: Maybe, she could shed some light on why it's taking abit more time compared to others. If you were to think on a positive note, maybe they're trying v.hard to clear your medicals despite the not-so-perfect results they want. Be strong okay! I'm truly worried about my medicals too but i'm taking it one step at a time...it's an achievement to come this far,so all of us should be v.proud of ourselves. Cheer up! Good luck!:ok:

hey Missy!!i am so sorry about what happened to you!! but I think you should push them and ask them to inform you about the reasons!! or really...ask to a lawyer.. if your medicals were all right you have the right to know why they failed..this is not correct from their side! take care

Emma Gemma
27th Jul 2009, 06:19
Consulting a lawyer will probably be very expensive and would probably ruin every chance of ever getting employed with QR in the future.

Speak to HR Department again and say that you don't feel satisfied with the outcome of your application, presuming your medicals were fine, and that you have spent a lot of money on it and ask them to see if they can make an exception. Passing your medical examination is however a prerequisite and a requirement for employment and many airlines don't give feedback at any stage of the "joining process".

Hope you get it sorted out!

With regards to the offer letter which we must sign, for the 2 witness portion, can we get anyone we know to sign?

What should we put under designation for the witness?

I quickly ran to my GP to ask her what could be the reason and how i can get it back to the normal range... and she literally laughed at me and told me i was perfectly fine and nothing needs to be done... and i insisted and told her 'i need to get it perfect for a job and they wont accept me with this' and she said that thats impossible, they MUST accept me with this because everything is fine. *facepalm* OMG why cant they comprehend what i am saying!!! its so frustrating when you ask a simple question and they keep being stubborn and dont give you help! im devastated.

Hi everyone,

I had OD on June 27, FI on June 29, and received the congratulatory letter on July 16. Finished my medical by July 24 (Friday). I had to redo my urine test (I was dehydrated) and had a couple of teeth restored, did them all in a day so I was declared "Fit to Work" by the medical clinic.

Just wondering how long is the soonest that QR gives feedback on the medicals. They made us write our training date to be August 2009. I was hoping to hear from them sooner.

Hope someone can guide me regarding this. Thank you.

wow, i'm so happy for guys who got in. :)

I also wanted to be a flight attendant. I'm a college grad, good fair skin, a nice face and personality. But I have a problem with my height. I'm only 5" tall. Are there any possibilities that I can get a job as an FA?

28th Jul 2009, 15:58
I'm considering spending a significant amount of money to attend an OD in Toronto. I'm hesitant because I'm tall...just under 6' in heels. Do other girls as tall as me get in? Info from those who have attended an OD would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Emma Gemma
28th Jul 2009, 16:26
I'm tall for being a girl, around 175 cms, and never had any problems getting into QR. I also know one girl at QR who were a couple of cms taller than me. One of our managers even said it was "grand with tall girls". It will also be a good advantage for you when doing your checks as you wouldn't have to strech your neck that much or crawl up the seats as some do!

mellymoo
28th Jul 2009, 17:35
Height is normally from 5ft 2" and up to around 6ft for girls with boys I believe its different. Most make you do a stretch test without heels to a height of 214cms.

diana.sky
29th Jul 2009, 01:40
^Really, how come they advertise only 212cm.

Anyway, just a question that entered my mind - Who will take care of securing visa for the countries flight attendants go to? Especially, for us Filipinas? We usually have to secure a visa for a lot of countries, not like other nationalities who can easily go to different countries w/o visa.

Is there an internatinal visa for FAs?

I hope someone can answer this technical question. And also help me with the medical question I posted earlier.

Thank you so much.

Emma Gemma
29th Jul 2009, 05:16
QR will take care of it!

Crew would mostly travel on a document called General Declaration which will be handed over either by the CSD or CS on arrival. For the United States crew would need to have visa. It's nothing you need to worry about.

Cabin Crew Salary Qatar
Can someone tell me almost how much Cabin Crew can get extras as meal allowances??

Emma Gemma
30th Jul 2009, 12:16
It's 212 cms and this will be measured at the interview. Their requirements are written out on their homepage!

No internet in your accommodation but you could always apply and have it installed. I think it would take a couple of weeks. Maybe if they put you near a hotel somewhere you could go there meanwhile waiting and use theirs.

diana.sky

Thank you so much, Emma. :)

During OD, I had a hard time and barely reached the mark. I had the feeling it was really 214-215cm to offset the additional height padding that comes from wearing heels.

Then again, maybe it's just really harder to reach 212cm when wearing shoes than on tiptoes.

Hi Emily,

I am attending a the open Day Cv submission On Saturday 1st August in Johannesburg at Sandton City, Holiday Inn as I got an Invite Via email. Please help with the following queries:

1. Can anyone attend the Open Day (My friend has a CAA Lisense and would like to apply?

2. What to wear?

3. Are you allowed to wear colour contact lenses if they are tested or should I just wear my clear/natural ones?

4. Are you allowed to have a french Manicure a short length or should i just keep my nails short?

5.Is it fine if your photos are taken at home and printed and not in a professional studio. how strict are they?

6.Any other tips for me?

thanks
hayley:rolleyes:

Vampirita
31st Jul 2009, 10:42
Hi Hayley,

yeah anyone can attend, it's an Open day so tell your friend she can go. Dress to impress, a nice dark suit would be preferrable (don't forget to wear clear tights, never black or colours). Keep your hair out of your face, wear a bun or a ponytail (but not a lot of hair accessories). I would go for your natural colour eyes as you won't be allowed to use colour contacts if you get the job. French manicure is OK, as long as your nails are clean and you're not wearing a very dark or extravagant colour you'll be fine.
Regarding the pics, it's best to get proper professional pics, but if you don't have them is OK, take the ones you have to the OD because if you get to the final interview they'll ask you to redo them, if you look good in the ones you have you'll be fine.
Mmmm what else... smile, smile, smile and speak to people, make friends, there's always someone between the crowd that works as a scout for the company so socialize and be nice!
If you get the call and go to the group interview, don't monopolize the conversations, tell your opinion, listen to the others, and if you see someone who's not talking much, ask them what they think (teamwork is what they want!) Don't shout or try to impose your views, smile, nod and if you don't agree, say nicely why.
And if you manage it to the one on one interview, well just be yourself because if you get there is because they already like you. So just enjoy yourself and talk about how your work experience makes you perfect for Qatar Airways.

Hope this helps, good luck!!!!

Hi hayley.lundall,

I thought I can answer for some of your questions regarding the OD for Qatar airways as I've read every single posts who wrote in this forum.

1. Can anyone attend the Open Day (My friend has a CAA Lisense and would like to apply?
Yes! anyone can attend the open day without even an invitation, as it is open to everyone.:)

2. What to wear?
If you want to give them a good impression, it would be a good idea to dress smartly. However, it's not obligatory at the OD. They'll tell you if you get selected, which will be the next day, to wear a formal suit with a skirt.

3. Are you allowed to wear colour contact lenses if they are tested or should I just wear my clear/natural ones?

At the OD, they don't even care whether you wear colour contact lenses or not. You've got only max 1mins to show off your good qualities to either of 2 recruiters.

4. Are you allowed to have a french Manicure a short length or should i just keep my nails short?

At the OD, they don't even care whether you have a french manicure or a short nails. (I feel like I'm repeating myself:O)
As long as your nails are neat and clean, you won't have issues.

5.Is it fine if your photos are taken at home and printed and not in a professional studio. how strict are they?

At the OD, it doesn't matter. Again, if you get through the final interview, they will anyway ask for your photo taken professionally if you have them taken at home.

6.Any other tips for me?

I don't think I'm the right person to give you any tips here:ooh:, as I faild.
But most members here say 'be yourself and you'll be fine'
I don't get this. Maybe I wasn't being myself. I tried to smile all the time and they may have seen my unnatural smile(!):}
It was just painful experience for me.

Anyway, wish you the best of luck

Hope it helped.

grapefruit, i completely empathise XD i failed first too, so i learnt 'NOT to be yourself' :) and then i passed the second time haha. well dont take it that seriously, its not like i acted as a completely ddifferent person, i just saw the things that I might have done wrong or was lacking and by the next interview i tried to focus on these things (e.g. no matter how much i wanted to say something i should have never appeared pushy or impatient, so i shut up and waited for my turn)
one thing is for sure, smile a lot and be very friendly for the OD, first impression counts the most. the AD: teamwork!
by the way, if you start reading this thread from the beginning you will see A LOT of good info, indeed i think we are not saying anything new here, everything has been said before..
good luck on your interviews :)
(today im a bit happier because finally i got a perfect CBC! *hopes and hopes*)

Okay here's my small monthly contribution. At the risk of upsetting people here goes...Grapefruit I think the mere fact that you think the interviewers don't care how you dress, wear your nails etc on the first day of assessment may explain why you were unsuccessful this time. Trust me they care and they notice every little thing, I would say it is crucial to dress to impress on that first day and to adhere to all the company's grooming guidelines right from the word go. So you may just be handing in a C.V and a brief exchange but you will stand out if you are well groomed, wear a business suit, neutral hosiery, court shoes (closed toe) well polished, hair back off your face and well made up with either a french manicure or polished nails, minimal jewellery....I can't believe that anyone thinks this is not important when it is the very first impression you are making on the people who will decide whether you are through to the next stage or not!! Regarding meal expenses it varies between destinations. Regarding internet, yes it's in nearly all the new apartments for a small monthly charge but as Emma Gemma says it is no problem to get it installed, in the interim period there is easy access to internet, most people keep in touch with family using Skype. Lastly to the girl worrying about her height, lots of six footers in Q.R!!! ´Good luck to all.

31st Jul 2009, 16:30
Hi irishbecky,

I just want to correct some points you made. I don't think you've read my posts carefully. I never said ' they don't care how you dress' Instead, if you want to give a good impression to them, dress smartly and that's how I did on the OD. I tried to make myself the best look possible with a smart outfit and neutral nail vanished(!) Even a girl sat next to me asked whether I'm already a flight attendant:oh: as she thought I looked just like a flight attendant. Well.. If there was any reason for my failure, I think that I was a bit too old to apply for it. I feel pretty disappointed by their hasty judgement and unfairness.
Anyway, I'm still hoping to fly oneday until I'm at the age of 40.;)

Apart from these, you are absoutely right about things you mentioned as I heard the same things there.

Hi Hayley Lundall,
1. yes anyone can attend the Open day

2. I think you should wear suit with skirt and closed shoes with heels. Hair should be styled away from the face .

3. I think you should wear your clear/natural contact lenses

4. Nails must be well manicured and polished. I have a french manicure, so I think that is not a problem

5. At the open day, it doesn't matter. For the finalnal interview they will ask you to bring a professional photo

6. Smile, smile, smile and smile :O and make friends, and be natural. Listen to the others and tell your opinion. Just be yourself.

ALL THE BEST!!!!

Hi All!

My start date is 31st August so i've been doing a bit of research on Doha mostly from the website qatarliving.com...

Firstly, will we be dressing in business attire for the entire duration of ground school or will we have uniforms after a while - just need to know if i need to go shopping to get some more business clothes. Also they say you need a briefcase as well... can i just use a handbag or do they mean a proper briefcase/wheelybag or will we get a small bag with our uniforms anyway?

I also just read that crew accommodation is sometimes 2 people to 1 room and that you only get your own room if you get promoted - is this true?
And do you normally get placed in accommodation with people from your ground school or just wherever's available?

Also how many hours roughly do crew fly each month? just trying to work out roughly what my salary will be... and is there a bidding system for flights and days off? (i'm sure this has been answered previously but i can't find it in this thread).

And one more question - will I be trained on all of the aircraft types or is it usually only a couple? The reason I ask is i'm scared i'll get stuck doing only the really short-haul flights if i'm trained on an A320 as opposed to the B777...?? I've only ever done short-haul flying in Australia before so not really sure how this all works!

Thanks guys :O

Emma Gemma
4th Aug 2009, 11:13
The first few weeks of training is done in business atire. Usually half way through your training you will be given your uniform! Bags will come with your uniform. A briefcase is for training and should be of a discreet model.

Accommodation really various. Two to three people would share but most commonly only two people with one bathroom. They will try you to put in an apartment with somebody in your course but again it can vary and they may as well put you in an empty room with another crew member(s).

I think they say in average you would fly 65 block hours. Not accurate. I know of several crew doing well over 100 block hours per month. I think you can request for a trip each month.

Initially they will probably train you on A319/320/321 and A330/340. After some time they will put you on B777. On the fair side I wouldn't want to get trained on all those aircraft during training all at once as it's hard enough as it is!

bunny_gal
4th Aug 2009, 11:55
I've had the same thought. The briefcase. Is it okay to carry a handbag (tote bag) big enough to put files, books etc? Probably a laptop type of bag?

Emma_Gemma

Are there any optical shops around where I can get Saline or any contact lense rinse solutions? Any idea?

One more question, we won't be taking public transport to training centre right?

Thanks a million :)

There are a few optical shops around Doha. Family Optics at Al Mansoura Road is a good one. Al Badea Opticals is also another good one. I can't remember the address to that shop but I will try and find out for you. There are also Grand Optics, Pearl Opticians and World of Optics.

No, it's company transportation in small buses with QR livery on them!

GirlWithQuestions
4th Aug 2009, 14:10
i was also wondering about that briefcase thing... i want to use my big tote bag, wonder if that is ok... it's kinda sporty but i used it on the interview :P

and 2 people in the same room?? i knew about the bathroom sharing thing but sharing a room?? seriously??

and can you ask to depart from another country? i have been living in japan but i am from brazil and i was going home by the end of this month...

thx :)

Emma Gemma
4th Aug 2009, 14:31
Not two people in same room! If there are two people sharing ONE apartment, there will be two bedrooms and one bathroom. If three people are sharing ONE apartment, there will be three bedrooms and two bathrooms.

I suppose that bag would be fine as long as it's discreet. If they don't allow it they will tell you in training to get another one.

I was interviewed in a different country than which I departed from but you have to let them know ASAP. If you are certain you will be going back home and want to depart from there it's probably best to get in touch with your HR Coordinator today and let them know!

I feel disappointed.. I have been waiting for 3 weeks and a half and still no answers. The last medical examination that I sent to them was a 2nd CBC. My OD was on April...Its been a long time -I dont know what to think.. If I get an answer, Im sure that it will be to re-do the CBC (this means to wait another month+another month if I get hired)...Do I have to lose all hope?

don't give up!
my FI was at the end of February,
and I only got confirmed this month...
I know it's disheartening,
but the best thing you can do is just get on with your life
in the mean time and send them what they ask for each time...
They have standards to adhere to and until you meet them,
they will have you on hold.
So chin up!
Hopefully you will get an answer soon,
and we'll see you in Doha...

Thank you very much for your recommendations, I appreciate it. I think that I have nothing more to do than to wait and continue with the monotony.

As soon as I receive an aswer I will let you know guys, greetings.

Don't worry there is no question of you getting stuck on short haul, it doesn't work like that. Yes we do have a bidding system, it's new and it works well. Emma is right about the aircraft types you will train on first, you will do your 340 training after a few months and then after that Boeing and so forth. Always more block hours than 65. You will never share a room!!! Some girls used big handbags instead of briefcases but they were business like, a normal handbag would never be big enough. You are issued a handbag and a strolley with your uniform but you won't be wearing your uniform except for grooming and graduation but it will be issued a few weeks into training and then tailored for you. You can't use the bag for training because apart from anything else it wouldn't be big enough it also wouldn't be allowed. Remember that it's quite chilly in training school. If you're shopping at the moment, get plenty of nude, matte, tights and pop sox also skin coloured camisoles for under your blouse and any hair accessories you need like a doughnut. Good luck.

Hi!
I understand that a full medical check up will be taken in Doha.
Will it be the exact same process as what I have taken in my country? (pre-employment medicals, step by step)

Lastly, should I submit the Xray films as well?

The medical examination in Qatar it's required by the government before they can issue you a work permit. It's a basic general check up. Nothing to worry about.

i retook my audiometry. having a hard time hearing 6000-8000hz. did anyone experience the same thing? :uhoh:

QR letter was confusing. It said "repeat tympanogram" but what I took was audiometry. So we repeated the audiometry.

If I need to take the tympanogram, it's not a repeat, since I haven't taken the tympanogram yet.

I'm hoping the repeated audiometry exam will suffice so I dont have to keep taking a day off from my job. I've been working in the company for a month today and I've already had 3 absences. My boss warned me already. Might as well resign if I keep at it. This is really taking a toll on my career.

Hoping to hear pieces of advice on how to handle this.

The topics could be anything and not actually relevant. It's your participation and how you interact with the other people in group that you should focus on. It really doesn't matter what you say, unless it's offensive or racist, but it's how you say it. Don't interupt others, be acknowledgeable and polite, keep eye contact and think of your pose.

hi there, I have just applied for cabin crew at a Qatar Airways recruitment campaign in Mauritius. The resume submission was on Saturday 8th August... ... i know that normally they give you a call back on the day itself so that you pass the preliminary screening the next day...
Now I havent had any calls yet...does it mean I didnt pass the 1st screening? or should I give them some more time scanning the resumes?
I do believe I got the necessary skills to be part of the cabin crew. I speak and write fluently in English and French, as well as speaking Creole. Plus I have lived overseas for 5 years and worked in the customer service and hospitality sector. I've been a manager for a well known cafe and I just loved it. So many reasons why I want to be cabin crew... I can go on an on...
I have a background in design, but realised that working a 9-5 job isnt for me. I've never been so motivated in applying for a job like that... want this so bad!
Very worried If i dont get a call back.. its already monday... so its two days past the first resume drop in day.

Any crew who has actually been there, can you please advise me on that?

Cheers

SavinMe
10th Aug 2009, 12:45
If you're married before you join then stay married. If you're single then you have to stay single for 3 years. After that you can ask for a 'permission' to get married. This thing is stated on the contract which you will have to sign an agree on. If, however, you decided to get married before the 3rd year of joining then you will be forced to resign. Gets mo?

Emma Gemma

QR will dismiss you if you ask for permission to get married. You need to work for at least three years with the company. Having said that it's no guarantee that they will let you.

Thank you to those who have responded.

Yes, the no marriage within 3 years clause is very clear in the contract. But my question was, if you wanted to stay as a stewardess, say after your 3 years contract, what can you do so you can get permission to get married and still be a stewardess?

Is it an absolute reality that QR doesn't permit single stewardess to get married, even after 3 years of service, and will always force them to resign or not renew their contract? Is there no flexibility on this issue? No circumstance when someone was able to get married and stay?

Thanks in advance.

holdudvar!

dont be sad :( i was like you also, but cheer up, a lot depends on luck too.
the photo should be how they explained it in the info email: business attire (look the most possible like a flight attendant), tied up hair, make up (although i didnt have on mine and they accepted it), neat shoes closed in the front, skirt below knee and position as they described with a full open smile. oh and if you have bangs/a frindge, tie it back lol (they told me to do so on the final interview)
anyways, if the photo is not perfect they will tell you the next day so i dont think thats a factor that would disqualify you. whats really important is to look like them, like a qatar flight attendant and behave like one too, confident, pretty and smiling smiling~
at least this was the message i got from the ODs. i hope i could help and please please dont be depressed, that just ruins your days. theres always another chance, you have to be REALLY patient in this process. just read through this thread from the beginning to the end and youll find plenty of info to see what they are looking for more or less (of course you can never figure it out completely, and i think luck matters a great deal also).
good luck to all who's trying :)

Hello everyone,

i've been reading this post for a couple of days now, trying to figure out how is the company, the recruitment and the living in QATAR.

I got a litle scared at the beginning, everyone just talking trash about the company, and conditions they put you on...
But its as i though, and not all is bad...

There will be a OD in Lisbon/Portugal on the 15th of August and am trying to decide if its worth going there...
It as always been a dream of mine to work in the sky, traveling all over the world. :)

But i have some questions, and will be very thankful if anyone cang give some more feedback.

What is the limit age to be accepted into a cabin crew member training? Am asking that cause i'm 28 and i guess my time is expiring...

I see many people from asia and africa aplying, but is it worth for a european guy to go and work as cabin crew in qatar? Will one be able to save some money?

If one doesn't get the contract renewed after 3 years, is it hard to get a job at another airline?

If for any reason one gets sacked or wants to leave, how will that work? Does one have to pay them for the training? How about the trip back home? Will one just end up homeless in qatar?

On average how many hours a day one works? Not just flying hours :P
if it works as ryanair, you work a lot, but only get few flying hours.

Thank you all for your time

Dear guys,

Could any of you provide me with a valid email to recruitment office in Doha???

I participated in Warsaw's open day on 9th of August and i got to the final interview however, I am not ready to start the job for Qatar as soon as they might need me as I still have to finish my schooling here.

I would like to go there with my husband and with his skills he should not have any problems with finding a job there. I talked about his case during the interview and they also said that in profession it should be fine. Anyway, I think visa might be a problem for him and it worries me a bit as we have to go through difficulties because of it we don't want it.

I would like very much to ask if the company can provide him with work permit. In fact many companies do so for the family members

I got the application form and 3emails were given on the first page, top of the application and one of them was to the Office in Doha (so those who got them too will know that i'm not a liar:)) Now I need this address to ask about the visa for my spouse and get first hand infomation. Could you please help?

All help will be much appreciated.:ok::ok::ok:

listen, i was too nervous about this so i read back checking dates here in the forum and it seems that the time that passes between the results being sent to the medical centre and the clearance email is about two weeks (somebody had one week and five days but i also saw somebody with 3 weeks), so keep your hopes up! :) i think if a whole week passes without them requesting to redo something youre on the right track of being cleared... of course this is all my speculation according to what ive seen here in the forum.
about the starting date, you should tell them that you would like to start e.g. end of september or whenever if you need some time to finish your business off. they have no problem with it but you have to tell them in time!
good luck to everyone!

It can be difficult to bring your family with you to Qatar. It's actually different for cabin crew than flight crew. Also keep in mind that girls are not allowed to move out of company accommodation and get the accommodation allowances. Girls must always live in the company aacommodation and they won't let your family move in there either.

Best to speak to your HR Coordinator but please prepare yourself for bad news. I will keep my fingers crossed for you! Good luck!

QR will not provide your husband with a work permit. It would be best to speak to the Immigration Department in Qatar and talk to them regarding what you should do.

montana2009
12th Aug 2009, 20:09
so the only solution is to make him come to Doha on turistic visa and search for a job on the spot. While you have your contract it should be all easy to take it from there but it really depends on what your spouse is doing. I assume that accomodation prices are very high there.

montana2009
12th Aug 2009, 20:14
Yes it could be easier to call, but call who? I called the embassy here in Warsaw today and one nice lady told me over the phone that they are not involved in such cases at all.

My husband didn't agree to get a contract before going there, seeing the city, the company and his future team which is understood but maybe it might be a solution to others? How about international companies sending people on contract to Doha? Im sure you can find one, it's not that easy but that's what they told me in the embassy.

Emma Gemma
12th Aug 2009, 20:55
He could always try to find employment in Qatar depending on his experience and degree. Of course there are international companies that send their staff to their outstations to Qatar. Maybe you could surf around the web and see if you could find anything.

You could also speak to your HR Coordinator and ask if your husband would be able to live in Qatar under your residence permit.

i know its not an easy process, but we cant give up right! i will ask my HR coordinator and see what happens. thx!!

montana2009,

this is what i got from a website: "There are two main categories of residence visas: work and family visas. If you have a work residence visa, you can sponsor your family provided you earn over QR 5,000 each month"

it also said you need to start the process for the work resident visa before arriving in qatar. some sites did mention that a working wife is harder to give a work resident visa to their husbands then the other way round. but not all websites did mention that. as soon as qatar airways sends my visa (i still didnt get that), i will go to the embassy and ask them how to proceed.

When you take the government mandated medical exams in Doha, do you need to do dental again? Have xrays retaken again in Doha? Thanks. :)

Emma Gemma
13th Aug 2009, 07:59
At least one good side is that you will be earning over 5000 QAR and you should try and get a work permit to your husband. Check the internet to see if there are any companies that would suit him because it might be difficult for you to pay for your family as Qatar is expensive in terms of accommodation. However it will be easier for you to look around once you are over there!

Fingers crossed for you!

montana2009
13th Aug 2009, 08:15
well, I don't think they would like to do x rays again as it is not healthy really and if you take care of your dental in your country there will be no need to do it again I assume its logical- if it's fixed it's fixed :)

Emma Gemma thank you very much you'r being very helpful here. Are you from UK?:)

Just wondering... if I accept the job offer and decide to leave during the training or few months after it how much money exactly do I have to pay them back?

I know there is a deposit which is deducted from my salary every month. Would I get part of it back?

There is another amount of money which is being taken away from me - 350QR every month which im going to get when my 24 months contract expires. If I decide to go back home early do I still have to pay it? And happens with guys who just pack up and run away as I know many people do so? I know they might be in trouble as it will be very difficult to get a job in other airlines.

What with the bag that i have to pay for as well? There is another amount of money to cover the price of this bag. Should i keep that bag or have to give it back, or do i have to pay full price?

Can anybody count it, how much money you have left in the end if you pay your 350QR, accomodation and bag. I supppose it's not much.

If I leave before the contract expires would my last monthly salary be sufficeint to cover these expenses?

Emma Gemma
13th Aug 2009, 08:40
How much money you have to pay back depends on how long you have been working with QR.

The bond will be paid off for 21 months and they start deducting it from your salary from your third month of service. If you leave after 12 months, you need to pay back one year's bond which would be 4200 riyals. If you leave within a year you also have to pay back your joining bonus. If you leave whilst in training, or at any time for the first three months, you have to reimburse the ENTIRE cost of the training bond.

It's difficult to say if your salary would cover all expenses but definitely not for the first few months

Some crew do jump ship - disppear downroute - and would obviously not have to pay anything back. They will be banned from Qatar for life and will probably not get a reference either.

The bags will be paid off for six months of 86 riyals per month. The accommodation deposit for 15 months of 100 riyals per month. Basic salary for your first six months is 3300 riyals. If you start from your third month, when you begin paying off your bond, it would be 3300 - 350 - 86 - 100 = 2764. You also need to include your flying pay which would in average be 2015 riyals based on 65 hours. In total that's 4779 riyals which is equivalent to $1310. The more you fly, the more you earn. After six months your basic will increase. It's all detailed in your employment guides.

WOW Emma Gemma :)

I can´t believe how much info you are giving...
You'r the best, but you already know that.
Well, thank you for your help the other day, and thank you for these further enlightments. Very, very usefull to all the wannabes :)

I would like to become a cabin crew, but am thinking that Qatar might not be right for me, and since i dont see any other alternatives/companies taking on unexperienced people, i guess i'll never be one...

To answer Perfum, as they say in the website, english is a must...
So i think you must really speak english.

To reply pitaceo (http://www.pprune.org/members/307849-pitaceo), i have thought about that, that she might be working with QR, if she is, she is doing a great job for them answering questions to the noob wannabes, while not beeing (dam whats the word... well...) one sided just telling fabulous things about the company... and there for beeing misleading.

Well, it might also be a strategy to take out the weak links before they get to OD's or AD's...

But either way, i dont really care where she works(hope shes doing okay thou... :) ) what i know is she surelly enlighted me greatly with all the answers and since no single person came to disagree i guess its al true...

Wish you all the best.
My OD in portugal is ruined, came down with a fever and can make it there...
So any doubts i would have on going are now over :(

hi Lara Derita (http://www.pprune.org/members/307843-lara-derita) welcome to the forum and qatar thread :)

Well i'm not an expert on the subject, and i dont know what are your doubts about the process.

But as far as i know, all you need is to know how to speak english, make a CV and take a photo with executive suit on and go to the open day... there you'll learn a bit more about the company(expect if you read this thread in wich a lot of things are very well explained...), they'll then learn a bit about you and if you get lucky they'll like you and ask you to come back another day, and... thats as far as i know how OD will work.

Edit: in page 14 of this thread you have a post from junpei_kun (http://www.pprune.org/members/297009-junpei_kun) where he describes his OD and following days experience. give it a look.

hi New one (http://www.pprune.org/members/307883-new-one) and welcome to the thread...

Well, guess you aren't gonna get the job because you'r even to lazy to read the posts in this thread last page.
no worries :) just messing around a litle bit.

About the dates, i haven't seen anything at QR site.
About how it works, read a few replys above and u might have a pretty good idea about it. Also in the few pages(2/3) before for more info.
After that you can start asking specific questions about it... also dont forget to see page 14 of this thread where a user posted his experience at the open day. as i said just read a few replys upward to get a better idea.

Good luck
ps: wow just a noob a few days back and now am already answering questions, again THANK YOU Emma Gemma, just messing with pitaceo (http://www.pprune.org/members/307849-pitaceo) a litle :) thanks to all not just Emma

Emma Gemma:

Thanks for your reply. I am totally aware that girls and guys are train separately hence i am seeking for anyone out there who's involve in the same batch on 14th Sept as i am or departing from Singapore on the 12th Sept. I do hope to make some friends before arriving at doha.

However, i do have a question for you. SQ do train both male and females together... as for Qatar Airways, why the separation??

Actually, it would be more logical to second-guess yourself when it comes to QR because, as they have evinced over and over again in this thread, they like to double check a lot.

In general, having x-rays done is safe when used under the guidance and advice of a physician. Having a CT scan, cervical spine x-ray, chest x-ray and biliary exam is not typically considered a significant health risk. Often the risk of radiation exposure is greatly outweighed by the benefit offered in picking up diseases or disorders which could have a more dramatic impact on optimal health.

We are exposed to radiation every day from various sources, such as frequent airplane travel and high altitudes, minerals in the soil, and appliances in our homes (like smoke detectors and television screens). So I wouldn't hastily conclude that QR wont retake xrays due to health concerns.

Perhaps someone who knows for a fact what happens during the medical exams in Doha can answer my question.

@Pitaceo
As for Emma Gemma, she is the best contributor on this thread. She answers queries in a dignified, humble and mature manner, taking care not to offend whoever she is addressing. Her presence in this thread is what's keeping it organized, informative and accurate. Regardless of what company she is affiliated with, I'm very grateful that she's in this thread, selflessly and patiently giving her time to our concerns. Most of us are newbies, afterall, and only Emma Gemma can provide the information we need because she's the only one who truly knows the facts based on her experience working for QR. Let's all give her and each other due respect on this thread. Thank you.

There should be an email address to the administrator who you can email and let them know that your account has been locked. But, if there isn't one you can always register a new email address and set up a new QR account on it. They won't notice. If you are planning on attending an Open Day you don't need to register at all. Just turn up on the day!

WoofyWoof

I think most airlines, including Emirates and Etihad Airways train both boys and girls together but QR has always been a bit ackward in that perspective. They used to train them together but decided to do separate them a couple of years ago and for the reason being not "involving" them too much. QR isn't very fond of relationships between crew and this is probably one of the reasons for training boys and girls separately. Still, they work together onboard and I wouldn't be surprised that if they could schedule them separately they would!

Don't worry about making friends before arriving in Doha. Everybody is in the same situation and you will make friends on your first day in training!

Diana Sky

Thank you for your wonderful and kind words! It's very nice to know that you appreciate my presence on this thread. I actually quite enjoy it! Let me know if you need any more help. :)

hello everybody,

anyone knows how long it takes them to answer after i send the medicals ?

Emma Gemma
16th Aug 2009, 11:19
FlyingBlue79

They need to know your blood group and Rhesus Factor. They also check to see if you have any diseases such as Hepatitis (A, B and C) and HIV. They would also see in your urine test if you are using any drugs or if there are any infections in your body which could have affected your kidney.

Meaz

It various and could be between a couple of days to a couple of weeks.

As Em Gem has pointed out before about what they are checking for a really useful piece of information do not take any forms of medicine that contain codeine or pseudoephidrine (cold medicine - that dries you out) to the middle east - it is illegal and a 4 year prison sentence be very careful and read all medicine packaging!!!

Thanks Emma!

WFTG will be departing on the same day as i and we both went through the interview together. =)

However, with regards to our accommodation, are we able to request to be assigned in the same apartment since we are of the same batch?

Emma Gemma
17th Aug 2009, 10:00
No, you won't be able to request to live together as it's all decided by the people in Doha. Be careful to ask about it in Doha too as crew have been sacked for asking to change roommate!
