Two F-16 fighters were dispatched over Wisconsin Monday to track a single-engine plane that was believed stolen in Canada by a student pilot, authorities said. The incident caused the Wisconsin Capitol in Madison to be evacuated as a precaution.

14,500 ft in a 172, :eek:, where did he eventually land?

Thanks Eboy, It makes you wonder what his intentions were, and what state of mind he was in. I'm glad he didn't prang it in a built up area.

I hope he remembers to log those student-pilot solo hours.

Pity the poor instructor who approved this QXC. Or should it be called disqualifying cross-country in this case?

It seems that the CFI didn't authorise the flight.
However, no doubt the 'student' will be able to log his time in prison :=

The Canadian papers said that he was (or had been) a student at the school that owned the aircraft. There was a suicide note found at the hangar. Guess he changed his mind.

One wonders how slow can F16 fly, must have been a tad frustrating for the pursuit pilots.

Actually the news reports are now leaning towards a "death by cop", or in this case "death by F16" scenario which didn't work out as expected.

Well I've seen a Typhoon practically hover so an F16 in the right hands can probably do something similar. The noise was stupendous, the earth shook, and the fuel burn was I am sure horrendous. Could also be a tad tricky to keep the quarry in view.

Yet another Canadian assault on US aviation; first Sully's geese, and now this...:}

In a 172 yet; at least we can detect them better than the Soviets could (remember this guy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mathias_Rust)?) :ok:
