Anyone know of reasonable PPL hire in Ireland? A quick look on the internet reveals yearly membership fees of 700 - 1000+ euros and hourly rates about double those in the UK. Not to mention the mandatory five hour checkouts!

Bear in mind a litre of Avgas is around 2.20Euro in Ireland at the moment.

You might want to ask your question here and give a location for the hire:

Are you looking for once off hire, or are you going to based in Ireland, and flying regularly?

The first is much more difficult to find here.

In either case, if you gave an indication of which part of the country you're looking to hire in, it would be helpful.

I live in London but likely to visit county Cork fairly regularly. I'm surprised that casual PPL hire is so difficult.

The National Flight Centre at Weston Airport will hire C150/152 maybe a C172 for self fly hire. C150's are €175 an hour think C172 is about €195.
Here's a link to there website National Flight Centre - Home (http://www.nfc.ie/) if that helps.

The only ones that I know of in Cork are Atlantic Flight Training, Cork Airport, Ireland. (http://www.atlanticair.ie/) and south air (can't find a website..do they still exist?).

Others with more knowledge of the area will hopefully be along soon ;)

National Flight Centre is a LONG way away from Cork. They also insist on a five hour checkout. Or at least they did a few years ago.

175 yoyos for a 1 filthy? Must be a joke? Converted to USD that's the same price as a twin over here.

Yep the prices in Ireland are crazy, I hired a C150 a few weeks back and flew for 1hr 20mins...it cost something like €265.
