If you wonder how bad is our industry,.....in the aftermath of 9/11 2001, 2100 aircrafts was parked in the desert.

Today, in 2009,...2800 aircrafts are parked in the desert...and keep rising!

But that's maybe because oil prices are much higher and some models just will stay there forever.

Remeber: Altough oil is 3 times cheaper than a year ago it's still about the double it was 2001.

According to Pprune's Wannabee Rumor Control, airlines are crying to find pilots, and training is basically free, after you complete the fATPL, a A-320 rating with 200 hours of line training.

I am retired now, but I cry my eyes-out for the great airline industry, in view of high salaries, benefits and other advantages now afforded in 2009, compared the bad that was prior to 1974...

We old-timers know it's a CYCLICAL industry. It goes up and down like a yo-yo.

Bad times follow good. Good times follow bad.

The only folks who don't understand that are the ones too young to have experienced it.

Ask BelArgUSA.

Hello Dysag -

Oh, there are definitely good things among improved employee benefits.
Regarding Ryanair -
Peanuts + soft drinks will be sold at 50% discount to cockpit crew in flight.
Also, toilet use will be free of charge to flight crew while on duty.
However there will be a charge of 50p per sheet of toilet paper.
Consider cutting sheets in halves, and use both sides.
Or pack a roll to take along in your flight bag.

All above subject to presentation of valid airline ID for applicable discounts.

When compared to the global carnage of WWII, when most of the world's entire financial resources and productive capacity was squandered; this global recession is a cakewalk.

Two years from now you'll again be buying $6+ overpriced, overrated coffee at StarBucks.
