being the wing tip it looks to high to of been ground equipment, most likely another wing tip collision.

Looks like it was pushed back into a light mast? Seems pretty bad.

mmmm...... the big clue is that it was a 744F.....F being the key.

After loading, the ground handlers towed the tail support strut into the wing tip. Just didn't give a wide enough berth around the wing. The poor
tail support ended up lying down on the tarmac.

Not the first time and certainly won't be the last. :(

Wingtip easy fix.

Actually the 744 can fly with the tip removed.

Even with the other one installed.

Apparently, it only adds a tiny bit to the fuel burn.

A couple of years ago British 744 was flying in with only one attached.

Nothing a bit of high speed tape and some staples couldn't fix!:ok:

Thanks for the info Mr Turner. I thought that's what has happened, as it's the most likely bit of ground equipment to dragged around at that height.
I liked all the other humorous replies, as it's always better to laugh at misfortune (especially when it's someone else's:p)
Also, just curious, how far back can the "wingtip" be removed :ouch: and the 74 still legally fly, as the winglet itself looked OK ;).
How many rolls of speed tape and what type of staples would one use if trying to contain costs?

yes winglet is mel-able.

nice damage thou

better get some of that really thick speed tape, and bend it over its self to make the TE profile......thats if team A380 hasnt taken it all!

The damage is on the wing and not the winglet, so NO CDL can be applied. (Not a MEL)
