Hi there,

Are there any instructors out there that would be interested in a 7 day spin around Europe? I want do European IFR training (have an FAA PPL/IR)

Ideally we'll source an G1000 N-reg for the trip and aim to have some fun.

SEP or MEP? What make and model?

Where and when? How many flying hours are you looking to cover in this time?

What is your own experience, in both the USA and EU (or anywhere else for that matter)?

This is not a brilliant time of the year to be flying IFR/IMC in north-west Europe and considerably different to the sunny parts of the USA. Knowing where and when you intend going and in what could make a big difference, e.g. crossing the French Alps in a de-iced twin is favourable over a 1985 C-172, G1000 or not.

I take it this is just for fun and not for instruction. Regardless, will you be covering the costs? You may be lucky to find someone prepared to do it free of charge but you'll probably find you'll need to cover their living costs at least.

It may be an idea if you were to give more information on your plans as it would help any FIs (or any IR holders who are not FIs) make an informed decision.

I would have been interested but work commitments prevent it.

Hi 2close,

Good questions. Looking to depart mid-March in something like a 172, so keeping away from the icing will play a part in determining the route. The route is completely flexible, we'll just stop in fun places to eat and see (trip priority). Naturally, I'll cover lodging and food etc for the trip - I'm hopeful I can find someone who is just interested in a bit of European IFR fun.

I've 250hrs PPL/IR but no proper IR experience, hence the purpose of this trip.

Are you looking to do a JAA IR? If so you will need to register with an RTF and all the other good stuff. The JAA IR can't be done freelance like the FAA.

However if you just want European IFR experience then I am happy to volunteer, I am an Instructor with the relevant qualifications and hold both JAA and FAA Multi Engine IR's. I also have a flexible schedule and happy to come along for the ride as long as my expenses are covered.

Another one who could help you is IO540 a regular poster here who flies a TB20 by memory and has an IR. He s not posted for some days so I guess he s on holiday right now, but you could PM him.
