SAS agrees to acuire Norwegian carrier Braatens.

"An agreement by Scandinavian airline SAS to acquire Norwegian domestic airline Braathens ASA provides a basis for growth and value creation in both companies. Jobs, route networks and the Norwegian civil aviation system will be safeguarded by this deal, which values Braathens at NOK 1 127 million."

Hmm, what is your opinion....?

Great for BU, I guess. Saves their jobs, and happy if thats the case.
But hardly good news for the travelling public. Competition would be (if it wasn´t already) a thing of the past. And with ongoing EU scrutiny of SAS/LH, SAS/Austrian etc. etc., I don´t see this deal going through very easily when Brussels starts looking at it.

The Norwegian market is already sown up tighter than a Scotsman purse. When we had the intrepid Color Air trying to have a oiece of the abundant pie, they were killed off very very quickly by SAS and Braathens undercutting their prices in a most incredible way.
And of course as soon as CA went bust, back up went the prices, to their usual ridiculously high level. :mad:

With this aquisition, even the veneer of competition will be laid to rest. And the ones paying the price will be the Norwegian domestic passangers. With the size of this country, rail is no real alternative, and with the creation of this new monopoly, prices will soar ever higher.

Does KLM have a saying in all this,because after Eurowings this is their 2nd loss in 1 year feeder wise
At the same time they don't seem to be very popular in the merger and acquisition section
so it makes one wonder how they will end up filling that longhaul fleet

As far as I understand, SAS is going to buy KLM's part as well as the Braathens' family's. So I guess that makes them aware, but I see your point on the deteriation of the Wings Alliance.....

I read last week, that KLM and Braathens both agreed to split. BU was not happy with what they gained from the coorporation, and KLM was not at all happy with BU´s complaints.

I hear that they are looking further into smaller companies in skandinavia and even Icelandair any thoughts!

KLM is renewing the KL/NW partner-network. Eurowings and Braathens are not welcome anymore. KLM uk, KLM exel (still independent!) and KLM cityhopper are expected to merge, creating more efficiency in KLM's regional brands. Martinair is going to minimize pax-operations and is going to be KLM's Cargo-department (in co-operation with KLM's 'Pride of Africa' Kenya Airways. And finally Transavia is already creating low cost carrier Basiq Air (in the near future to be completed by Buzz...??).
KLM and Northwest are restructuring their Global Alliance and I'm sure that they've long-term plans which airliners are allowed to join them.

Ryanair seem to have managed to handle SAS on Stockholm route. SAS pulled out of AArhus when FR started.

To be fair, SAS pulled out of Aarhus before FR started. Don´t think that FR has ever "handled" SAS, not on Stockholm, nor on Aarhus.
But smart they are.!!
