So this is my first post on this forum. Never really needed some advice cause usually I could use the helpfull searchfunction, but now I am really thinking of getting my PPL in the US. To be more precise a JAA licence, since I live in Europe. And already read the great posts about this on the forum. However the hardest question still is, Which flying school am I going to trust my hard earned cash to?
I have two schools which sound the most interesting to me. That is Anglo american academy (or now American aviation academy) and EFT in florida.

Especially the first one had some good reactions on this forum, but those are already from 1 or 2 years ago.(also some negative reactions offcourse) Does anyone have recent experiences with this school? Especially since they changed names and had there JAA licence renewed

I was out at American Aviation (nee Anglo) in June for JAA PPL and IMCR renewal then back out again last week for a day rental.

There's a lot of renovation work underway at the moment so the place is a bit disorganised and I didn't see a lot of student activity (early on a Monday morning though). The 172 I flew seemed better maintained than some of the aircraft in the past with nothing obviously broken - although the radio PTT was a bit intermittent.

I know there has been a lot of negative posts in the past but I've always found them good value and have flown with them a couple of times a year at least since 2001. In the past you had to be quite pushy to get what you wanted out of your time there but no idea how things with be with the new owner - Tom - and Martin now as chief instructor.

It's a nice place to fly though.

I'm not recommending an FTO in Florida but interested to know why you haven't considered Ormond Beach Aviation - Home Page - Welcome! (http://www.flyoba.com) or learn to fly, helicopter training, private and commercial pilot training with OFT (http://www.flyoft.com)
My research indicates both are cheaper and OBA much cheaper than EFT (advert on here says EFT JAA PPL is now $8995). Also, both JAA FTO's have been around longer than EFT so must have been satisfying most customers.
