Not near you, but a couple of shares going in our 1947 Stinson Voyager at Booker at the moment.

Pretty much, yes.

As I understand it, the L5 was the wartime derivative of the pre-war S105, with a much bigger 185hp engine.

The S108 and S108-1 were developed just after the war from the L5 with a similar (but prettified) airframe and smaller 150hp engine. I've got a share in an S108-2 which had better intruments a rudder trimmer, and a bigger 165hp engine. The later 108-3 also had, I think, a taller fin and better rudder (not the-2's best feature which can be a struggle to keep straight on crosswind runways) and some further refinements before Vultee sold Stinson off to Piper and the brand vanished about 1950.

Not, truth be told, always the easiest aeroplane to fly, and a little thirsty, but very practical and I enjoy it a lot.

They tell me it's rather thirsty, but they also have a Stearman, maybe worse?
Our 65hp L4 looks good in comparison.

I average about 40 litres/hour, and suspect strongly that the mixture control is essentially an on-off, since it doesn't seem to really let me lean effectively in the cruise, which is typically . On the other hand, maintenance is fairly minimal and fairly readily done ourselves. I reckon at about 3 hours/month, I'm averaging about £80/hr - adding up hourly and monthly, and including my shares of insurance and some pretty expensive serviced hangerage at Booker.

Lister Noble... Fancy swapping a couple of hours? I've only flown the PA18 of that range and would love to try out one of the older cubs. (Particularly since I'm currently at 99 types in my logbook and would like the 100th to be something reasonably interesting.)

I'd guess the Stearman can double our fuel consumption!

A 1/5th share in G-MAXG, with a shiny new prop and rebuilt engine (following a slightly more abrupt arrival than usual at Elvington) available at White Waltham....

http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/GImages/G-MAXG002.jpg

...and now with a brand new battery. Flew it for the first time in 8 months yesterday, following the repair work (and a new battery) - sheer bliss; 8 months in a Yak-52 had made me forget quite how sublime a Pitts S1 is.

(and the share for sale belongs to the member who had the slight mishap - Extra have finally fixed the push-up-from-inverted-oil-pressure-problem on his new 300L, but only after he managed to track someone down who had suffered the same problem - Extra didn't have a scooby-doo as to how to fix it).

There is no conceivable expenditure (other than incurred wholly for the purpose of a business, etc) which will make you better off than you would be without spending the money.

What you really need is a new accountant.

NoD,

Nice formation picture, but does that imply a "buy-one, get-one-free" offer?
