Great to hear,at about 8.45 am local,coming back to LHR , somewhere near the scillies,the calm,probably slippered with a smoking jacket on, reclining in a comfy chair giving us and everyone else a smile on the face. Keep up the good work and we will buy you that wheelchair so that you can keep going to 80 instead of retiring in the near future! You beat the pants off the rest of the world!
Oh..nearly forgot, it was on new years day.

No I haven't. If they want to reallocate my headset locker there will be blood. Ah!.....I remember now......you were in the BOAC Constellation running number 2 to the Cactus boys in the ex-PSA DC-4 ....their callsign changes weekly so I give them a choice of Allegheny/Piedmont/Braniff/US Air....whatever.
As I was saying, 12 Jan 2009 is the 39th anniversary of the first Boeing 747 to land at Heathrow on 10R.....my first day.

Mine too, Queens building AIS ATCA 3 started 0900 and went straight up to the roof to watch it arrive, about 1030 ish I seem to remember.
How things have changed since then eh?

The first B747 from Pan Am managed to land at the other Heathrow (Known to the RAF as RAF Northolt) I remember!
But no fault of ATC's!

Don't think so Lou.
I think you may be thinking of Boeing 707 N725PA, Clipper Aurora, of Pan Am that landed at Northolt on 25th October 1960 with very little runway left after mistaking it for runway 23 at Heathrow. Piloted by Captain Warren Beall, the flight had originated in Istambul via Frankfurt. The 41 passengers disembarked and were coached to Heathrow. The aircraft was flown out shortly afterwards with minimum fuel and weight.
