I'd like to familiarize myself a bit with the Legacy 600. ( No previous experience on Embraer planes).
1. Can it fly the middle-east (Bahrein) -Luton leg with average headwinds nonstop?
2. Any comments on operational experience, reliability, passenger comfort, special features, weak points, European maintenance facilities, etc. are appreciated.

It is about a 6-6.5 hour, M.78 plane in executive configuration. Don't think it could do OBBI-EGGW unless favorable winds and weather in London area.

Strong points: Cheap, about Challenger 300 money with a longer cabin. Large baggage compartment, large cockpit with airline-style jump seat. Airline maintenance schedule and parts should be reasonable priced with all the airframes out there.

Weak points: narrow cabin, aisle curves around the seating in exec configuration. Restricted in maximum ceiling, I think FL390 should do it. Avionics are airline-related and somewhat out-of-date.

Overall, good deal for the money, if you need a 6-6.5 hour plane and can live with the cabin.

The Legacy is still an airliner, for both good and bad. Direct operating cost is low and dispatch reliability is considered to be high. Low cieling could prove to be problem in congested areas with regards to get ctot's and you're also stuck in the bad weather without the ability to climb. The cabin is large and fairly quiet. Interior build quality is good but the lighting is really bad with 0% cozy factor. All in all very good value for the money, or so it would seem anyway.

One factor on the Bahrain-London sector is the route restrictions and levels.
Unless things have changed, cannot fly direct through Baghdad/Damascus FIRs
Probably still forced to fly longer route over Northern Saudi though Cairo.
Then when you get light, and want higher, will Athens have a level for you.
I do not know the Legacy, nice looking machine.

Even with a certified cieling of 410 the normal cruising altitude is still in the mid/high threehundreds and this is a problem in central Europe and parts of the US. However, the Legacy gives you a lot of bang for the buck.

As I learn more and more about this a/c I understand that there are quite a large number of them on European registry (British, German, Austrian, Chek, Swiss, etc.) There must be a considerable amount of ops experience gathered up to now. This airplane has been out of sight, out of mind for me.
Any infos on European training centers, sims? FlightSafety LeBourget may be?

I think you'll find the Legacy can climb direct to FL390 at typical weights, with FL410 soon after. Most flights here go straight to these levels, but things may be different in your part of the world. Still, the latest executive metal does operate much higher.

There is a program underway to study modernising the avionics fit, which is one of the less attractive aspects of the Legacy, using the Rockwell/Collins suite for the planned Legacy 450/500.

There is an option for LED lighting, which improves the cabin ambience a lot!
