I'm interested to see what our dream jobs are.. Lets say if every flying job landed you the same coin; where would you be and what would you be flying?

I'm sure there are some young bucks who want the left seat of the 744 and some ol' timers wanting a Beaver on floats.

How about you?

Did 3 years on the TwinOtter on floats in the Maldives.... now i fly a jet.

Best fun you can have in public I reckon.

I got intimately acquainted with one on wheels a few weeks back.

It really makes you remember where you cut your teeth, the mates you made and the fun time you had back when you wished you flew a jet........

Flying a brand spanking new 08-600 Cresco with aircon and a hydraulic hopper out of the Twizel base, where all the cockies had concrete, sliding roof super bins and I could fly 800 hours a year. Most of you dont probably know what im talking about except old mate empacher there who knows how fantastic the sunrise on a calm day over the main divide can look like!!

I thought-

I was the 'ants pants' when instructing on a PA-38,
An ACE when given control of an AC-50.
I was **** hot when I got my first Turbine on a N22.
Life was over when the F27/F28 came along,
and I still smile when I keep a 737 on the rails.

Just enjoy what you've got. There will be something much nicer just around the corner but if you don't appreciate the present you will never really enjoy what a career in aviation is all about.

Still smile about the Aero commander though!

Mercenary pilot. If you've got anything and you want it sent anywhere, I'll do it anytime. Rules? I make the rules. If you have an aeroplane I'll fly it. Helicopter gunship? Even better, just show me how to switch to guns because I'll be too close for missiles.
Preferably cruising below tree tops.

Remember kids, VMC is the recommended conditions only, Vne is not a limitation but a target speed to be achieved and anything less than a 25% overload is for pansies. :E

Something more realistic perhaps? Helo firebombing or STOL work into short mountain strips with lots of snow. Dash 7 would be nice. Wouldn't mind a rocket assisted takeoff in a Trislander either.

Aileron 69, this countries hipothetical equivilant is maybe flying a Cresco but they only pay you half as much because they recon the Aircraft is twice as productive. You don't have concreted pads, only grass and three foot high thistles, if the truck driver can he'll find some rocks to tip on. The strip you use is rough as guts and full of rocks because the boss thinks he's getting one over the opposition because they refused to work off it. You have to work with a 100 metre swath and tell the cocky it throws to 120. There are still decent jobs around but few and far between.

ad-astra has the right idea, whatever you fly it's a long way in front of everyone who doesn't.

Nice Collins airline gear on them...

VH-DHP(S/N N24A-34) Became ZK-NMC lives on flying around Mt Cook - such a beautiful aeroplane to fly - the best in the fleet! ZK-DHU? (S/N N24A-60) became ZK-NMD, was put into storage in Darwin until the boss went over and rescued it with new engines and flew it back to NZ.. Also has the long range and tip tanks in it, so can fly about 8 hours with full fuel. :ok:

ZK-NMD still has the original Collins gear in it, and works like a charm! ZK-NMC has still the Collins gear, bar one VHF which got replaced with an Apollo GPS/COM.

Probably taking pics. :E

Mr Hat, it depends on who you work for. Since I work for NetJets Europe, I have a fixed roster. I do tours of 6 days on and then have 5 days off. (although, it's changed a little bit now I'm playing in the office in Lisbon too).

Since NJE is an AOC holder, we need to conform to legislated Flight and Duty limits etc. So it's not bad. No two days are the same but some days can be a tad hectic.

Last tour. Fly day 1 to Lisbon. Day 2, standby, watched the rugby. Day 3, 3 sectors, including a fun approach into Lon City and then a short ferry. Day 4. Another standby day. Hit the gym, dinner with Checkboard. Day 5 early-ish start to Ireland and a loooong wait and then to Spain. Day 6, sleep in, gym and then fly to London. Finish. :ok:

We do take care of the luggage, brief the passengers and look after them if the flight time permits. Changes do occur. However, my days off are respected.

Like Snails I fly a Hawker 800 for Netjets….. however we are the poor cousins at Netjets Middle East on Honeywell XP’s not the Proline magic!. We too have a fixed rotation of 35 days on 31 off, the company provides travel to and from wherever you need to meet the plane and then you are on the road.

Days can be anything, a long day Dubai- Istanbul- London or Jeddah – Kuwait – Jeddah with a wait on the ground, which could be in a top hotel or if the turn is not too long then there are always Jepp updates to do! Or it could be a short sector like Naples to Genoa.

Last tour I had a couple days in Istanbul, five in Bahrain, four in Dubai, 3 and then 2 in Riyadh, a few in Jeddah and a couple in Dammam, then home again.

Like Reddo we also move the bags which can be an issue with a Hawker in the middle east and brief the pax, but we don’t have to look after them because we carry a flight attendant on every flight!

The only down side is outside of duty rest we are on a constant stby waiting for the phone call for the next move which may be operating or maybe paxing somewhere to relieve or replace a crew.

And yes, that's what I had in mind - took a ride on one 5? years ago when I first came here as a tourist. Thought then it was my dream job, despite never having piloted anything, largely due the 'scenery'. Nowadays I still do, for that and the aircraft... Though I did hitch a ride on a float-borne turbine otter in canada.. that was somewhat more impressively keen to depart the floor than the beaver.

TWOTBAGS and Reddo are both pretty experienced corporate operators.....I on the other hand am just starting out in this part of the industry after 4 fun packed but frustrating years flying the 757 and 767.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f200/haughtney/Falcon2.jpg
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f200/haughtney/Falcon3.jpg

A typical day means an early start for me with a drive across London to London City Airport. Then it could be a trip to anywhere! as the Falcon can lift almost a full load out of LCY, which means we can make Dubai or New York:ok:
Upcoming trips include south america and the far east..all in all lots of variety.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f200/haughtney/Falcon9.jpg

It could just as easily be a quick milk-run across to Dublin or Prague, and then a couple of days of free time whilst the passenger conducts their business.
My work pattern is 2 weeks on 1 week off, which means i'm on call over that time...thus far I've been called out once when not rostered a flight:ok:

Its a nice little number.

I've gotta disagree with you there. There's more to it than that.

I'm writing this as I cannot sleep as I am still wired after tonight's flight with a film crew. We spent two hours in beautiful light over some of the most spectacular untouched areas of the last wilderness on earth. Words can just begin describe the sights we saw. Icebergs seemingly suspended in pink glass water, shattered glaciers with bottomless crevasses as far as the eye could see, all contrasted in some places by the great white hell.

The (well known) journo on board has been around for years in the international arena and seen and done many amazing things. He said tonight's flight was the best flight he has ever done.

I'll be driving the long distance bus again next month. That'll be great but I'll be longing to be back at A005 with the turboprop... :ok:
