hello fellow poster,

if the 737 took off from osr which is ostrava in the north east of the czech republik just south of the polish border there is no way that it took 2 hours to fly to prg!!!!!!

i have done this route as a pax on an atr and it only took us 40mins and even with n-1 the 737 would have a higher tas at mct and probably do it in 30mins.

but it does ask the question why did the aircraft not land at the nearest suitable airport,if indeed it did suffer an engine failure.

I think he said 2 hours ago not 2 hours later?

Gimp another ppruner showing how little they know. Or for that matter how much attention they pay!

Why would they have done it at MCT anyway?

It was a shutdown, not a failure. That makes PRG the nearest suitable airport. Well done in my opinion. What impressed me was the fact that the pax were on their way to HRG within hours of this incident.

It seems it was only one bird, /something bigger/ duck or hawk ..
The engine was seriously damaged, the pics can be found
[ www. P L A N E S .cz ] - B737-436 - OK-WGX - Czech Airlines ?SA ( CSA / OK ) - Praha - Ruzyn? ( PRG / LKPR ) (http://www.planes.cz/cs/photo/1042972/b737-436-ok-wgx-czech-airlines-csa-csa-ok-praha-ruzyne-prg-lkpr/?win_res=1024),
scroll and see the damage of inlet plus broken fan blades,
as I heard pieces of them went through and damaged additional stages of engine.

Not sure, but the flight was not diverted, as CSA claims, or some Czech media present, the whole charter flight was planned from OSR /via PRG / to Hurghada, they probably chosen not to go straight back to OSR for two reasons - fuel burn before landing, or servicing facilites on Ruzyne Airport Prague...and less troubles with passengers, which had to get to Prague anyway, who knows..

How many languages do most people on Pprune speak/read fluently?

Many comments made in error on Pprune over the years seem to have been caused by people mis-reading etc.

It is interesting how quick some people are to jump on others.
It might be better to tactfully question somebody's use of a word instead of instantly assuming that they are not qualified to discuss aviation.
The Internet-especially over on YouTube-brings out the most interesting lack of 'people skills' among many X and Y generation types. That is one reason why YouTube is the shame of the Internet. Not most, but certainly a good number of members contribute to this impression. Even my younger FO's have commented on it.
Never mind the ugly language and lynch mob mentality.

A German friend has lived here twenty years, and despite his very high fluency, he makes mistakes with an adverb or preposition now and then.

I thought CSA had moved from 737 to A320 - the process was underway when I was out there in 2006 ? - their 737's were reputed to be going to Ukraine

Well CSA have a 737-400 (OK-WGY) based in DUB for winter charters and it is going back to PRG tonight due to an AOG so maybe its because of the damage to WGX.

todders you make me laugh with your small mindedness :D shame on me for making a somewhat basic mistake but english is not my first language "te curak" i will let you work it out. jste opice :} i bet you go abroad and expect everyone else to speak.....let me guess anglicky???

click, read the title again,i am only going with what my fellow poster headed the thread with. i would have thaught that mosnov (OSR) was the nearest suitable airport considering that they have a new maintanence facility there now??? and geared for 737s i am led to believe!!!

and pancpu i did indeed read your your text wrong, promin moc.

guerro nearest suitable airport on the 737 i used to fly had to be within 1 hour flight time at mct on the remaining engine which equated to about 396nm if memory serves my correct.

hey todders one last thing kdo si letu????

Well Captain, those of us who actually fly here would think twice about going anywhere but PRG. Lots of reasons, mainly to do with the infrastructure. And Yes I did read the title again and stand by with what I said.
Btw, your Czech is marginal at best.

It was a shutdown, not a failure

No doubt very high vibration, EGT through the roof N1 and N2 spooling down. But it doesn't look any worse then British Midlands that they didn't shut down.
