Local news informs that a Vasp A-300 blew eight tyres on landing at Salvador from Recife this morning (Mon 28 May), when "brakes failed and pilot had to use 'emergency brakes'".
Apparently the a/c did not depart the runway although it did use up all available runway to stop. No injuries to 57 pax/11 crew.
Runway was closed for the rest of the day. Will post more details as/when available.
2000-05-29 1400lt. Only "further details" consist of another newspaper report saying "pilots deflated tyres themselves as an emergency measure to make aircraft stop", and that the noise of the tyres blowing and subsequent schreeching brought people out of their houses a km away. And the front-page news photo of the 'plane sideways on conveniently shows a van parked in the way of the undercarriage!
