I am told Sky Europe OMNGD is parked on the West Apron at Manchester with an airport vehicle parked behind it.

Surely not a second airline gone in a day??? Does anyone know any information?

***Second NE aircraft just arrived next to the first and also had a vehicle parked at the rear of the aircraft***

It's a fact that it's financial - trust me. Not rumour or my Mother's Cousin's budgie. Otherwise no more news. This is not the first airport. Flights not released (yet!)

Am I the only one who is amazed at Manchester's quick reactions to (allegedly) impound aircraft when they are unable to get most escalators, walkways and lifts working for months on end?

I can't wait till the Tattoo and Piercing Shop opens in T1 Departures...

Cannot understand the need for an airport vehicle behind the aircraft to "block" it in on a push-back stand. Last time I looked - didn't really think it was practical to reverse a 737 on reverse thrust! :bored:

One aircraft now departed, other one will not be too far behind. Perhaps the airport were collecting in outstanding fees. Can imagine they are a bit jumpy at the moment on that score.

Paddy Power have just suspended betting on SkyEurope after the price fell from 9-1 to 6-1.

ETA: Now reinstated but down to 4-1.

ETA2: Now 5-2. Plenty of PPRuners with PP accounts?

One is owned, the other leased as far as I know.
So do they still have one a/c impounded in MAN?

There is still one there. OMNGP left with a delay. The other OMNGD on ground for more than 4 hours now. Ideas?

Spunky Monkey,

Ease up. I've been there, done it, experienced it all. I know exactly what its like. When it happened to me (more than once) I found I got myself sorted faster with a light heart and a sense of humour. The guys from XL wont be wasting time reading carp here, they will be getting on with it, they are made of much stronger stuff than you imagine.

Are we about to see the return of airline captains travelling about with cases full of cold hard cash for those airports hesitant to accept 'credit'. It has been seen before.

Interesting times. My thoughts are with those from Zoom, XL, and any other airline with less than robust accounting...

Is there anything official about this?

People are now talking like these two carriers have definitely gone out of business, yet I can't find anything official to state this and both companies websites are running as usual with no mention. Has there been any official confirmation or is this people just jumping the gun?

Copi-paste from Ryan air website :

Commenting on the collapse of yet another bankrupt airline, Michael Cawley, Ryanair's Deputy Chief Executive, said:
"This is proof positive that passengers should not book their holidays with flaky, financially stretched airlines such as XL. Passengers should only book reservations with financially strong airlines such as Ryanair whom they know will be here for the long term. We are pleased to be able to rescue these passengers and facilitate the CAA in their efforts to repatriate them. We strongly advise passengers to be more discerning when they book their holidays and look first at the financial position of the airline with which they book".

:D

What nice way to make a fool out of himself. The corpse is not even cold yet and you start your usual ryan air bla bla bol:mad:x

So lets us all hear. How strong is the ryan air flaky economy?
Why are they putting planes on the ground and shutting down routes. Did O'leary remember to hatch the fuel this year. Where is your profit this year? Why has some 55 captains left the company every month the last half year. Why is the hiring gone dramaticly down?
Can you be sure that you actually fly if you book ryan air in 6 months?
Why did ryanair borrow pilots form a flyky airline over the winther in 2004-2005?

My deepest feelings for the guys who lost their jobs with XL.com

It was a nice a propper airline to work for and they treated their employees like human beeings.

Things looked normal for Sky Europe at Luton tonight. I saw OMNGK arrive from Bts and park in the usual place, and later saw OMNGA depart for Prg.

Impounding aircraft is usually done on the instruction of Eurocontrol (via our CAA). If they say 'stop the aircraft' then that's what we have to do ..... no choice.

Maybe you need to direct your comments to the Eurocrats in BRU.

What a quality statement from a 'professional pilot'. So everything's great with the BAA at LGW?

Speaking of 'just desserts', pity you're not an XL pilot!

So Vienna is not too worried.

However two attempts to book flights in September & October failed with

I'm no fan of the man, but he is only stating the obvious. The fact that XL continued to take booking weeks after their loans were called in will, make people shy away from booking a holiday - the message will get through that you can't trust the travel industry. It will hasten the demise of more companies.

You can bet your bottom dollar that if Ryanair were ever in the same situation, O'Leary would still be trying to sell tickets to the administrators as they were winding the company up.

That statement sums up just everything that is wrong with Ryanair, and the majority of their passengers.

Get a life, the only thing wrong with Ryanair is its website.

My Mum and Dad and six friends are off to Majorca at the end of this month, four of the group booked with XL, as they hate Ryanair, my Mum and Dad and the others booked with Ryanair at more than half the price.

The group that booked with XL are now trying to book with Ryanair
but cant book on the website.

Guess they cant hate Ryanair that much can they.

And once again THANK YOU Ryanair for offering a B737-800 for two weeks
to help get stranded passengers home.

JUST HOW WRONG IS THAT :=.

Yes Mr. Cawley I will be more discerning in my bookings: I will avoid Ryanair like the plague! Thank you for your advice sir: very valuable.

Hi

With regard to 2 SkyEurope planes being "impounded" at Manchester yesterday. The facts as I know them are;

i) it was mainly MAN airport getting jittery about landing fees after the collapse that day of XL.

ii) SkyEurope were using credit but perhaps no worse than some others.

iii) There was no-one else involved, ie EuroControl etc.

iii) SkyEurope flew there AND BACK today.

iv) all other flights on SkyEurope network operated normally yesterday and today

There is no doubt that SkyEurope are not "rolling in it" but not many airlines are at the moment. There could be trouble on the horizon - there may not. Fortunately for them the Easter European economies (specifically Slovakia) are slowing but not at the rate of, for example, the UK. They are also not likely to hit recession. This leaves open the possiblitly of getting some investment which I am sure they need for the winter.

SkyEurope is a decent airline, nice planes and fairly good fares. It would be a shame to see them go. I would certainly pay a little more and fly with them as opposed to some others. I may be bias but I think it's a fair assesment.

It's not pleasant to hear of plane imoundings, bankruptcies etc. Think of the staff, families, ancillary workers. No-one wants to see this I am sure.
