Most readers with an Oz background, and others, I am sure, will be familiar with the name Barry Hempel, owner of Hempel Aviation from Archerfield, Queensland. Pilot extraordinaire and aviation entrepreneur - his flying skill is legendary and his displays have been a joy to behold over the years. Many pilots will have been trained by him directly or indirectly and many more inspired by his flying. Very sadly he, and a passenger, are missing after his Yak-52 apparently hit the ocean east of Brisbane during aerobatics on Sunday 31 August. It does not seem hopeful.
