Quick question, is there a requirement to pass / hold any qualifications to teach NPPL and PPL theory?

There is no qualification requirement as there isn't a requirement for PPL/NPPL students to receive any approved ground instruction - guided self-study is fairly common.

As for what a club would expect of a ground instructor, I expect most would like to see a flight instructor or AOPA ground instructor certificate.

There are a few FTOs that offer the GIC, and it does have some credit against that part of the FIC, if you take that at a later date.
