East Staffordshire Flying Club, 2008 Fly-in

On Saturday, 9th August, the ESFC will be holding their annual fly-in at Tatenhill Airfield, EGBM.

The day will be run along similar lines to last years successful event, with all monies raised going to our two resident charities, namely the BDFA and County Air Ambulance.

There will be flying displays from Genna Elfimov in the Yak-52 and our very own John Calverley and Dave Holland in the Antonov An-2. We are also expecting the arrival of Flt Lt Charlie Brown in the HAC Spitfire Vb during the afternoon.

Margaret will be serving coffees/teas and cakes in the clubhouse, the BBQ will be running for those with an appetite and an ice-cream van has been arranged.

Subject to the weather leading up to the event, we hope to have the grass runway reinstated for the day as well as the usual 1000m+ of hard runway (26/08).

Tatenhill Aviation, the airfield operators, have kindly offered to waive landing fees on the day, but we would kindly ask that all arrivals make a small donation to our charities.

Sorry, no non-radio arrivals or weight shift microlights.

If you require any further details, please post a reply or pm me.

Thanks for that info. . . . . . I'll do my best to support the
day by popping in from EGCB in our C 172 Hawk XP.

Regards to my friend Terry in the meantime !

Looking forward to seeing you on the day. I'll keep my eyes peeled for a 172 XP.

I'll pass your regards to Terry during the week.

This is a great place to fly-in to, last year's event was excellent and good to see the grass runway in operation again.

I can still remember Genna's 'flick-roll' on take off and that amazing vertical climb in the Antonov (bit of a brown trouser moment me thinks!). :D

Must be worth going just to have a close inspection of the Spitfire.

See you there! :)

'evening Tiddles,

The Spitfire is expected to arrive around 14:00 and will be at Tatenhill until late afternoon.

No flying display by the Spitfire this year, but I'm sure Charlie's 'arrival' will stir some memories and make for some good photos.:D

Regards

Well, today's the day!

Alot of work yesterday by the ESFC members, lets just hope the weather turns out better than today's TAF. Fingers crossed!

Cloud gathering and lowering, exactly in the way the met book says it does before the arrival of a warm front. PPL students, you could learn enough to pass the met exam if you look out the window. ;) As for the rest of us...I'm supposed to be instructing at Tatenhill today, but I'm not placing any bets on it happening. :(

Hope the wx at Tatenhill was better than it has been where I am.

The warm front came in like an express train around 10 am. My trial lesson student arrived and said he didn't want to fly, sensible man. I waited around for an hour, and the rain just got worse, so I went home and did something more constructive. There were rumours that it would all be through by 2 pm, but it certainly wasn't in Ashbourne, only half an hour's drive away...though sometimes a very different world weatherwise. I don't know if they managed to do anything at Tatenhill. A real shame if they didn't, as there had been a lot of work by a lot of people, and there were loads of expectant folk arriving even as I left. :(

Anyone know any more? AmeandPPL, I looked out for you, having been assured you'd fly in regardless. ;)

Thanks for that Whirly ! We are SO sorry we couldn't make it yesterday ! The weather wasn't that brilliant, but even I can't just fly "regardless" ! !

But actually, it was illness in a family member which was the main reason. Drove up to the North East on Friday, and only just back now.

I absolutely PROMISE a visit to Tatenhill one Sat before the summer is finished !
