Have you noticed some tightening of
medical rules?

In Finland we had a system that was functioning
very well concerning medicals.

"Then came the lawyers, then came the rules" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKZLTrojxyQ)

If the tightening of the rules is well based on hard medical evidence,
and hard facts derived from statistical analysis, then I understand.
Otherwise it is a waste of resources and waste of money.

Since you guys are so courteous and alltogether friendly,
I would like to clarify that there are some countries that
do have a system based on laws.

Laws that are obeyed.

One of the cornerstones for laws in some countries is that you
can rely on a "fair equitable, legal, just, irreproachable, righteous, upstanding, impartial" process.

It seems that in some countries the medical experts are forced to make
decisions that are approaching juridical power. So the question is that in
stead of trying to smother somebody bringing up an issue that might need
something to be done internationally we actually might try to have some
intellect within the conversation. If you do not understand the issue, a wise
advise is to withhold your opinions. If any advise are taken...

With all due respect.

And yes. I still have my medical.

But, Slo Moe, why the link to a daft video??? With great respect, we have no idea what you are talking about - like many of your postings, unfortunately.

Sloe Moe,

Tell us what has changed exactly, then we can comment on whether we have seen the same changes or not from an international perspective. Indistinct sentences alluding to something, which we may or may not interpret correctly, are not likely to get any worthwhile responses :ok:

Sloe Moe

But WHAT point are you trying to make? What opinions are you inviting - and about what? Are we to understand that there is a problem with medical requirements in Finland? Give us some facts! And forget the loony links and slogans.

I try this way:

..tightening of medical rules?
Where? What? Example?

..very well concerning medical.
What field of medical? gynaecology?

OK. I am sorry. My mistake, I am responsible.

In Finland the rules for medicals seemed to change to stricter direction quite
much at the same time as the "pan-European" aviation rules and regulations
were put in action.

In our country another great change occurred at the same time: The regulator
i.e. the authority that has been delegated the power to issue the rules and
regulations in our country went through a serious upheaval at the same time.
So I really do not know if this is an international trend, or is it just coincidental
in our beautiful country. And the reason might be that two major changes
happened in approximately the same period of time.

Two major changes in about the same time frame resulted that at least three
of my former colleagues lost their medicals for quite some time. Eventually they
got their medicals back. The time they were not having their medicals
is something that I would not wish to anyone to happen. Ever.
(As you understand I can not reveal anything of their cases. They are my
friends first of all.)

So in our country these two major changes at the same time
- New rules and regulations from outside the system. (Pan-European rules; JAR:s)
- Pretty much fresh organization of the "regulator"
resulted in quite much unwanted situations in the perspective of fellow
air traffic controllers.

So the question is, that have these pan-European (JAR:s) affected in
some situations concerning medicals where the legal rights of the individuals
seem to have been affected in not too positive ways? Have some ATCO:s
lost their medicals for no reason at all "just in case there might be something"
or as it seems just to protect the "backsides" of the medical issuing parties?

It might be that the changes in the governing organizations that where put in
place in our country at the same timeframe as the new "JAR-based rules"
where the cause in the unwanted situations.

I am sorry, my ability to frame this issue in a more precise or more
simplified way is a bit limited.
The vid in my first posting refers to "Dire Straits" song "Telegraph road".
Here are the lyrics (http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/d/dire_straits/telegraph_road.html).

So, your initial posting could have said:

"Have controllers in countries outside Finland experienced a tightening of requirements for their medicals?"

End of question.
