Hi all,

I am attending the 'Flyer' show at the Renaissance hotel at LHR this September and was wondering whether anyone could give me an idea of what these shows can do for someone like myself, in the latter stages of secondary education looking for a career as an airline pilot. Is there any chance at all of some kind of aptitude tests being taken there and maybe a fast-track to training???

Best Regards,

Hi there,
I attended the flyer show recently (May sometime i think :S?), basically all the airlines and training programs that go set up there own stall, i think theres around 30 - 40.... maybe more :S. Some of them give talks at different times of the day about there training etc, but theres always 2 people at each stall representing to answer any questions you have and give handouts.

For myself, being a low hours microlight pilot, (Wanna-be Commercial pilot) it helped me no end because, theres so much there that you havnt thought about, or flying schools that are not heard of. After the show, it gave me an amazing insight into how everything worked, and a good idea of what i want to do and how to achieve it.

There is also the opportunity to go on some aptitude tests (didn't have a go on these as they were very crowded).

Now, im currently looking for a full time job to start my training with Path finder, Cabair.

Would recommend:
1. Try to get there for most of the day, as some of the seminars are only in the morning etc.
2.theres a car park near to the hotel into the hotel (next car park along?), thats free and has tons of space (no one usually finds it) unfortunately, i parked in the very small space next the tree in the hotel car park when i went (exited through the boot).
3. Collect any and all advice going.

Hope you have a good time, everyones friendly and the CAA is even there for any querys.

All the best
Sole

It's basically a load of small stalls with the flying clubs trying to flog you their courses, and a couple of other compaines trying to flog you stuff to help with your flying training.

The only aptitude testing is normally at the GAPAN stand, but never tried it myself and not sure how close to the real thing they sell, it is.

It is handy to be able to collect all the glossy brochures and speak to all the FTO's in one place, and the seminars can be useful too, but take what you hear with a pinch of salt as I got the impression that some of the speakers have ulterior motives.

Oh and don't bother wearing a suit as some attendees do - they want YOUR business, not the other way round.

Thanks for all your help guys:ok:

As far as the aptitude tests are concerned, if there is a paticularly good score on one of these tests, what is the likely outcome??? Is it a pat on the back, do they take your name or could they even offer you the chance to join one of their courses when you reach the minimum age?

Thanks again,

Went to the FLYER show afew months ago and did the GAPAN tests last month at Cranwell.

I am only really interested in ab-initio training and all the main schools are at the flyer show. It's very usefull as you get to meet people currently ont he courses, I spent about 20 mins having a 1-to-1 with FTE, OXFORD, CTC and Cabair. I also spoke to GAPAN and they advised me to do their Cranwell aptitude tests.

The test GAPAN have on the day is a 'taster' of an aptitude test and I would really advise you do the real ones; for both the result and the contacts you pick up.
