Hello all,
I have an interview with Air Hong Kong scheduled for the beginning of August.
If possible, can any of you please give me ANY information possible that may help me in this interview?
I'm a novice on this forum, and with only 1300 TT, fairly new to commercial aviation in general, but I really want this opportunity, so, here are a list of questions I'd appreciate answers to:

1.-Is Air Hong Kong's interview similar (or identical) to CX's interview?
2.-What is a competitive TT, & Jet time for Ab-initio FO?
3.-Do I have to learn how to operate a 747 Sim? Or any other sim I know nothing about? (therefore I need to buy a book or study something, pronto!)
4.-What technical information or literature should I cram into my head before the interview to put my best foot foreward?
5.-Do I need to have an ATPL done by time of interview?
6.-By time of interview, I will have a 1st class medical w/ 2nd class privileges. Do I need to renew my 1st class medical before the interview?
7.-How long is upgrade time?
8.-Upgrade is stated to be on a Merit basis, does this mean upgrade is subjective and potentially based on management liking an FO?
9.-How is the Pay? How does being based in Singapore affect that?
10.-How is the work schedule?
11.-Are their any jumpseat privileges, or ID90 type benefits to visit my home in the states?
12.-How much information about the A300-600F do I need to prestudy?
13.-Can anyone provide a link to an existing thread with any of this info for Air Hong Kong?

Your responses are VERY much Appreciated, happy flying! :)

may i ask ur break down on total time?

how much time u have on turbine??

i am thinking to move bak to hk as well.

I got about 1100TT, 300 Turbine FO.
I don't think AHK is sending new hires to HK. I've been hearing Singapore. But for the Ab-initio position, I hope it will be HK.

Do a search, many have looked at this operation.

A few western folks, but mainly crew from Indo etc where it's a good deal by comparisons and they have no intention to go anywhere else, so good for them. 5 year bond, it is very real, signed in Singapore, by memory about $70k USD. They don't work to much, most live in cheap Asian countries and comute at own expense, wage is pitiful. But, it may suit you. They have some young wide bodies. :ok:

Good mix of Westerners and Asians now.

3 year bond $60,000

45-55 hours per month work

Wage is not so pitiful but not brilliant: FO US$7000 Capt $11000 approx pcm.

Good Rosters 8 days on 6 days off.

I think there are no more SIN interview. All interviews are conducted in HKG, with tickets, hotel, and meal allowances provided.

what is their demand right now? are they still looking for more FOs? any growth plan in the near future or are they satisfy with their 8 aircrafts? it is very hard to find good information regarding AHK.

Being cargo, are the flights mainly at night?

Are they still hiring ab-initio FOs?

How much do they pay FOs?

Decca07 said : "Wage is not so pitiful but not brilliant: FO US$7000 Capt $11000 approx pcm."

Its not really true. := Believe figures qouted includes variable allowances.

dekka007
28th Jul 2008, 10:41
Yes it does include the allowances that is why i put APPROX.

but that is about the average salary. but the lowest worst case for FO is 6500$us after training if you don't work hard. (There is a minimum salary even if u work less than 45 hours they pay u for 45)

With the highest salary about 8500 for FO if you work hard that month.

so like i said it is by no means brilliant but hardly pitiful..

Still interviewing I believe. But I think with the number of experienced crew applying that ab-initio is on the back-burner for now.

dekka what do you mean by back burner?

nicholasblonde
3rd Aug 2008, 05:18
Back burner is an english expression for "set aside until you need it"...i.e. don't use it until you have to.

Hi,

I'm interested to join as ab-initio DEFO. What's the norm for TT to be considered competitive?

Also, how much salary is expected for ab-initio DEFO. current ab-initio DEFO please elaborate. Advice is much appreciated. Thanks

Hi Guys

It will be best to directly write to AHK to get the accurate info.

Good luck!

Thanks Captain Vertigo but I'm conviced that they will just tell us. Since when any airline publish salary figures? Especially, in the competetive nature of recruiting in Hong Kong. That is the reason we come to PPRUNE (rumour)!

Still, any help please?

This website has updated figures, pay under training is approx 50% of the figures stated.

Hi all!
I've read all the article on this thred.
AHK Sounds good to me!
Now I have a few questions about AHK.

Does AHK allow me to commute from KIX Japan?
Is the figures as to the salary mentioned above after tax or before tax?
And Is the salary paid to banks in HongKong? Which means we have to pay
the tax imposed by HongKong?

Thank you for infoes!

No ab initio FOs anymore (removed from website at least). Pilot G who started this thread was a RJ FO and made it to an interview...I am a RJ FO and did not get an interview (informed recently). I had applied for both ab initio and DEFO...but I think my rejection email was for DEFO since they do not appear to have an ab initio programme any longer
