Just wondering why it zoomed overhead. Is there an airshow on up north at the moment or one has just been? The sound of it approaching was quite impressive and distinctively the Cat.

Just wondering what you are doing in Kununurra?

Thought you were at work in Melbourne, or is someone paying for you to have a holiday up there!

If Felix the HARS Cat was there at Kunanurra, it must have been some kind of vision.
I saw her at IRA last saturday and she was missing the L/H engine and has a hole on the L/H rear side due to refitting of the blisters. I don't think Felix is due to fly again for some time.
She doesn't zoom, just a vigorous stagger.

Weren't some guys gonna ferry a Cat in from Europe? Couldn't have been that one making it's way east could it?

The other Orstralyin Cat is still laid up in Portugal -

Either XXX is halucinating or some foreigner has slipped through unnoticed by the Catalina tragics and their usually thorough spy network.

Hmmm... interesting......

Perhaps I shouldn't have said HARS, perhaps (quite obviously it wasn't then, I just assumed).

I would love to know where on earth (literally) it came from then!

Or if someone has a suitable explanation as to what it may have been.

Certainly wasn't HARS Black Cat. I was standing under the wing sheltering from the rain last night, at IRA.

Still missing one engine, tarp over the cockpit and rear fuse.

"Geez, big difference between a Catalina and a Mallard"

Depends on how much of that funnyweed you had before you looked up in the sky :E

I'm willing to accept that it may have been the Mallard. Somewhat similar and from underneath many aircraft look black. :O

Hey All,

There was a Grumman Goose brought into the country this year.
Has round engines and from underneath would be close at a glance.
Apart from the red and white paint job.

Cheers,

Look black!!! You have earnt more black looks than up Todd Street, XXX. Go and stand in the corner. You will do penance for your Mallardy, giving rise to ill founded rumours, causing a flurry among Catalina tragics across the globe and failing to distinguish between a pair of R1830s and two PT6s.

I think you may have seen/heard a Caribou.

There's a "bou" chugging around here as part of the Pitch Black game but I dunno if it's been as far as Kunnas. Would explain the engine note but not the profile.
I believe that one of Pearls Mallards has still got recips but that may be old news.

Have seen two Caribou's parked in Darwin, and have heard them operating down in that area. From a distance they could look like a "Cat" and certainly would sound like one.
I understand that all the Mallards are now PT6 powered.
