Morning ladies and Gents,
I have a question about ATC system's. Let me introduce myself. I work in the Media (radio) as a broadcast engineer. We have to record our output for and keep it for 42 days (ofcom rule of broadcasting). Do you chaps in ATC have to keep recordings of your transmissions? I guess you do, and if so how/what method do you use?
We have some recording software (PC based) and its ok but not brilliant and I am wondering if there is a market for developing a user friendly, stable recording method?
We us to use VHS video tape and then when the video method became unrelaible getting decent machines was hard we moved to dat DAT (digital audio Tape) bases system. That was OK but as with any machine with moving parts they eventually fail. Now we have the PC based system.

So is there a market for a good recording system

Thanks for your time

Dave

All operational r/t transmissions and phones are recorded.

Some units use Nicelog for recording and replay.

The requirements for ATC RTF recordings are stipulated by the Civil Aviation Authority's regulatory people. Large multi-track audio tapes were used and normally duplicated for redundancy. Digital hard-drive recording is more common now, and backed-up onto disc. Audiosoft is another supplier of such equipment - easy to Google their details. Many ATC radar displays are also recorded.
