Nine crew members of a cargo plane were killed when it crashed near the city of Chelyabinsk in the Urals region on Monday, a spokeswoman for the Ministry said.

Svetlana Kryshtanovskaya said the An-12 with four turbo-prop engines apparently malfunctioned around 1:15 p.m. British time some 10 km (6 miles) from the airport. It was flying to the city of Perm from Chelyabinsk.
"The crew called controllers around 6 p.m. (1 p.m. British time) to say they felt smoke in the cockpit and later local residents saw the plane crashing," she said. "Apparently all nine of its crew died."
Russian news agencies quoted emergencies officials as saying bodies of all nine were found at the crash site. The plane, which belonged to Moskovia airline, was not carrying any cargo.
