Hello again forum readers, i hope you have had a funky and rock n rolling week since i last wrote on this site...

I have had a eye opening and enlightening week. It started with a visit to London's Science Museum and an exhibition called does flying cost the earth?

Flying is more controversial than ever. As the world’s population grows and flying becomes more affordable, the appeal of jetting off on holiday outshines the darker side of aviation - its carbon footprint.

So how is flying affecting our climate? - here is my slideshow from my visit...please click to view freedom in the air (http://freedom-in-the-air.com/2008/05/16/does-flying-cost-the-eath-science-museum/)

On behalf of all the trustees at Aviation Without Borders (http://aviationwithoutborders.org/Home.html) I would like to say a very special thank you to all who helped on our ‘Introduction to Aviation Day’ at Fairoaks. Aviation Without Borders (AWB) hosted its second ‘Introduction to Aviation Day’ of the year at Fairoaks Aerodrome, near London, on Saturday 17th May. The day is named, for obvious reasons, Smiling Wings day, and was supported by EADS and Synergy Aviation of Fairoaks.

After the flying, and when all had finished lunch, the decision to fly early was vindicated when the cloud lowered and the rain came down. With the day at Fairoaks ending sooner than expected our guests were invited to visit the nearby Brooklands Air Museum where they were given a belated talk on flying and the workings of an aircraft. All then had the opportunity to view as many static aircraft as they wished, including Concorde, amongst the exhibits at Brooklands.

I would like to extend a big thank you to Dan Tye and Kirsten Corrigan who gave Freedom in the Air a great write up in the current issue of Go Flying. - Since the article went to Press I am very happy to report that Brian Catchpole who is the second person with a disability training at Cranfield (http://freedom-in-the-air.com/2008/04/26/egtc-check-ride-in-g-axio/#more-863) went Solo yesterday 22 May 2008 after passing his medical flight test...

To maintain my hour building post PPL i have been flying different routes from Cranfield. My new route for this week was to fly to White Waltham and experience flying under heathrow TMA - Farnborough radaor offer a great LARS and flight information. On approach to EGLM rwy 07, as i descended on the dead side an Air New Zealand was turning base to turn finals only a few thousand feet above me..very exciting. My next route will be Cranfield to Bembridge on the Isle of Wight. A slideshow of this flight and my fuller report follow this link - Freedom in the Air navex report EGTC - EGLM (http://freedom-in-the-air.com/2008/05/20/flying-heathrow-control-zone-to-eglm-white-waltham/)

Safe and happy flying - Sky's the limit
