Hallo together,

I am a little bit confused.
What want you people from atc hear from us pilots when we are handed over to another sector and we are in a climb.

I thought it is ok in this way:
Radar123 ABC123 climbing flightlevel 230 direct XXX


Yesterday a colleague told me it is only right in this way:
Radar 123 ABC123 passing fl 150 climbing fl230 direct XXX.

I thought the information which level I am passing is only required on the initial contact with departure direct after takeoff.

To confuse you even more, if you have been transferred from a same callsign freq eg London to london then you can leave out the passing level. However if you are transferred from MAAS to london for example then the passing level should be included, its to check the accuracy of your mode C.

Good question.
ICAO DOC 9432 (RTF manual i.e. Radiotelephony manual)
sets the guidelines.

Local rules (national ANSP:s are mainly responsible for differences)
can override ICAO recommendations, that is why
there might exist some variation internationally.
Also in U.S.A FAA has some differing material, in Europe
Eurocontrol has different points of view etc...

Then there are some personal opinions also on the
correct and efficient RTF. Time is of essence in busy
sectors/centers(ACC:S)/APP:S(approaches)/towers (TWR).
