Aer Arann Makes Emegency Landing

This is from todays RTE news, dont know which a/c it was but probably an older ATR 72,

"An Aer Arann flight from Dublin to Galway has been forced to divert and make an emergency landing at Shannon Airport.
The captain of flight RE231 had to shut down one of the two engines because of a technical fault detected shortly after take-off.
Airport emergency services backed up by local authority fire and ambulances crew were on standby when the plane landed safely shortly after 10am this morning.
There were 30 passengers and five crew on board.
The passengers have since been transported to Galway by coach."

Yeah, a lot of the general public are nervous about flying especially on props, this wont help their fears, the train looks a safer option!

Unlike the picture on RTE news of the aircraft, this flight was being operated on behalf of Aer Arann by VLM airlines on a F50! Excellent reporting again by the media.

According to ACARS and flight plan systems it was EI-REM, Aer Arann's own ATR-72.

Well Austian Simon I dont know where you get your info, but flight was definatly operated by the VLM F50 OO-VLO and was also most definatly flight planned as such as shown in CFMU CHMI screen.

It was definitely a VLM Fokker 50. I was a pax on the previous sector- GWY to DUB- well maintained a/c and professional crew.:)

Yes it was the OO VLO of VLM. No major incident here and very well handled by the Manchester based crew. Prop EEC fault.
All ok now and aircraft back in service tomorrow.:D

two hosties, two flight crew, and if the FO is junior and not cat2 then a senior FO will ride jump seat to do the landing if CAT 2 wx.

Okay, I see both aircraft as RE0231, EI-REM and OO-VLO in the ACARS, both aircraft active on the flight Aer Arann 231, both showing the segment DUB-GWY.

I can't make a rhyme out of those data. I assume however, that somebody took the conclusion, that the ATR-72 did the flight and discarded the F50 as an error based on that information.

Your attack therefore was unwarranted, as even the aviation data are entirely unclear what airplane was indeed on that flight.

I wouldn't get too excited about 'ACARS' it just seems an advanced computer gadget to me.

The VLM F50 was still parked in Shannon when I departed there this evening at 1900local. Parked on the apron, there was a set of steps close to the number two engine.

Upon your request I checked the source of the message I have been forwarded by the ACARS database I am using. The source actually has been an ADS-B or Mode-S signal (hence the transponder signal) mirrored to that database as an ACARS message. EI-REM has been airborne as flight RE231 - that's all I said to counter the argument of sloppy research.

I have long accepted, that it was the VLM - as I saw a native ACARS of them (native one, not a transponder signal mirrored) as well and believe the reports here more than these conflicting data. ;)

BTW, you may check Crash Aerien ( http://www.crash-aerien.com/forum/atterrissage-durgence-dun-avion-de-aer-arann-vt7252.html ) as well what airplane they report ... ;-) (they too report the ATR-72).
