50/15 rule instead of 100/30

It has just been brought to my attention the hours required to revalidate an instructor rating has reduced from 100 in 3 years/ 30 in the last year to 50/15.

The rule change is a welcome surprise.

Does anyone know the reasoning behind the change? Is this another instructor shortage action?

Perhaps they have seen the long term weather forecast!

It was a JAR-wide Long Term Exemption brought in last year (you can find it on the JAR web site). It aligns fixed wing with helicopter requirements.
