Mobile Phones on aircraft

A friend of mine travelling from the UK to Holland swears that the following announcement was made as the aircraft pushed back: "Would Ian please turn off his mobile phone as we can read his texts on the cockpit display". Apparently the cockpit display went blank and the chap's text message appeared on it. Personally I think it was a wind up. Am I right?
