RWY Request

In some large airports ,there are more than one terminal buildings ,some airlines prefer to use certain runway so that they do not need to taxi much .Nearly all the pilots require the runway to us if the runway we assign to them is not the one they want ,we have told them that we know the runway they prefer and if possible we will change the runway for them as soon as possible ,but they still request at the initial contact or even some pilots request when they are still far away from my sector !
What do you ususlly do ? Do pilots request runway that often in your contry also ?

but i agree it does get kind of annoying,
