Singapore Airline Direct Entry FO

Hi everyone,

Can anyone answer the following questions?

1. Does SQ hire direct entry FO?

2. Any fast command and how long for experienced direct entry expat FO?

3. Command must be on local term?

Back in the early to mid 1990's, SIA used to hire F/O's direct from GA in western countries (eg, Australia, USA) but probably due to a few of them taking SIA to court for whatever reason (it has been the subject of numerous threads and posts on PPRune), they stopped doing it.

Now, SIA trains their own F/O's at their own flying academy in Seletar and Perth, Australia. They recruit Singaporeans as well as citizens from Asian countries for this, namely Malaysia, India and Hong Kong, but never any western countries, probably (as a guess) due to the events mentioned above.

SIA upgrades between 72-80 FOs internally every year. This number, however, is insufficient to cater for the rapid airline expansion rate, necessitating hiring of expat capts to cover the shortfall.

Hi there,

Is anyone familiar with SQ's recruitment process for fresh pilots who have a CPL + IR but lacking in hours? I am a Singaporean and will be considering getting my own CPL in Australia and converting back to a Singapore CPL as I do not meet the age requirements currently.

Will I still be considered as a SQ cadet pilot and start from scratch or will I be considered as a direct entry S/O? Would appreciate it very much if someone could provide me with valuable advice regarding this. Thank you.

as far as i know, you would be required to start as a cadet as you need to obtain your ATPL. with your license/hours in hand, you might get exemption when flying training starts.

Still a long way to go till SO as you need to be jet rated and type rated. not so straight forward for SIA.

how about if someone holds a msian cpl/ir with TT of roughly around 1000 on turboprops > 20tonne..
any idea whats the training process one will go to?

as to what i know, SIA keeps a constant ratio of locals to expats for company security reasons.

Any one has any insides to that?

On another note, do you happen to know whether SFC accepts self-sponsored applicants below SQ's stipulated age?

If yes, is the situation similar to that of obtaining an Australian CPL/IR and only to start from scratch as a cadet pilot with SQ?

I'm a (very) fresh M'sian CPL/IR/fATPL holder who went to the SQ cadet interviews in mid-March.

The interviewers told me that subject to CAAS approval, I would be allowed to skip the initial 200hours and go straight on to the Learjets. That is IF I get called up for the 2nd interview and pass it.. :zzz:
