Subject pretty much says it. Just curious as to whether US citizens are still getting jobs down under, particularly in NZ. If so, what are typical qualifications and what sort of jobs are they good for? Appreciate the time.

For starters, you still need to have the right to live and work in Aust or NZ.... they arent that desperate just yet!

And in reverse?

How possible is it for say an Aussie to go to the USA and work? Excluding any family, or under 29 type things like we have with the UK?

I assume its just as difficult. Never comes up for discussion around here.

Doesn't Australia have a similar treaty with the USA now also?:ok:

For us oldies Jabba it's damn near impossible, unless of course you can afford to 'buy' your green card!:eek:

Oldies:eek:......not 40 just yet,....not long though:{

So how do you buy a green card? Thought they were really tight about that sort of thing.

Given that the last time I saw a list of corporate jet regos in Aus many of them were still in N rego, especially the big stuff, I suspect there is still jobs there.:sad:

No Binghi..............just a retaliatory question!

I think the Aust/UK thing is also available as a USA thing now, but only till you are 29.

I am a bit past that mate!

Mind you I could go aeroplane hunting for local buyers if you want me too......a paid holiday is rather appealing!

Well, if you asked 5 months ago when we were US's 51st state, the answer would have been yes! ;)

Didn't realize questions required retaliation. Maybe it's a cultural thing.

I asked because there's a listing for Air New Zealand on airlinepilotcentral.com (clearing house for pay and hiring info for airlines which is pretty obviously tailored to US pilots). I thought maybe this indicated that US citizens could get right to work with a job offer. Apparently that's not the case. Thanks for the info pass-a-frozo.

And no, the grass isn't that brown here at the moment, but in the long term I do not see a bright future for my descendants living in the States, so I'm trying to figure out what options are open.

Oh, sorry I got your nickname wrong.

PAF ok how about we start with your wage? 50% cut starting tomorrow. How would that feel eh? :ugh: Oh and you have to move to McMurdo base in Antarctica where you will be bonded for $500,000 and you can't take anything with you except your toothbrush.

Maybe that was the wrong word, and it was meant in a friendly debating manner ....... and a bit of Aussie kind of "How do I get one of your beers....well how do I get one of yours!!!" kind of thing.

I all seriousness, why not try to get the job and talk to whoever about the immigration issue. Worth investigating. You never know unless you go!

And even us Aussies will admit in private that NZ is not that bad:E

People who are financially gifted (ie: LOADED), are able to purchase a green card for around $500,000US!:eek:

Capatalism at it's finest!:ok:

PS: By old, I meant over 29 and ineligibible for a holiday working visa...:{

Fair enough. I've a tendency to overreact to perceived american-slagging simply because it gets so tiresome. Obviously, that's not what was intended. I apologize. As for our beers, you can freaking have them. :ok:

I looked in to it a little and it appears that having a degree and a job offer puts you right on the threshold of having your application considered. Perhaps in the next few years, the job market will dictate allowing a few disgruntled septics over. I'll keep an eye on it.

Thanks again for the help.

yeah.....i think its a bit like us going there.......unless you are approached by a company and they sponsor you

Mind you a few more of the seppo's would be better than some of the others we let in:suspect:

For anyone interested, the US visa is directed at students enrolled in post secondary studies or have graduated from post secondary studies in the last twelve months. Aussie's going to the US also have to find an organisation or employer who will vouch for (sponsor) them.

You also have to be under 30.

Seppo's=apostrophe indicating possession rather than plurality=poor grammar=written by a roo? :)

Just a thought that even though this is an Air NZ job it might not be in New Zealand? Air NZ does fly right around the world with a few stops on the way.

Yeah, I accidently left my computer logged into pprune and Skip just went to town. He'll get a right talking to for that. :ok:

If you fly for Air NZ you will be based in NZ. Airline Pilot Central lists information from many international airlines regardless of their hiring practices.

Cheers,
