Hi all,

I'm an Aussie CPL(and ME IFR Instructor) with several thousand hrs. Next time I visit the UK I would love to hire a C172 and cruise around the UK for a week. Just VFR low n slow.

So, what do i have to do to be able to fly on my Aussie licence in a G reg aircraft in the UK.

Check ride to the requirements of the club you hire the aircraft from, but might also be wise to have a couple of hours with an instructor for some ground school on UK airspace, charts etc if you aren't already familiar with them.

As long as your SEP class rating and medical are current that's it, as long as you don't want to fly a G reg in any airspace except the UK, or IFR or at night.

For private purposes the CAA don't prevent you from flying a G-reg aircraft abroad, but you may need to check with the countries that you are visiting.

Certainly no problem for a local bimble, but not as cheap as in Oz.
