Duxford Bonus Day Program 2008
Dates for your diary

Duxford is home the Imperial War Museum and must be the premier destination for GA pilots in Europe. Most weekends through the flying season, although there are no guarantees, you are quite likely to see warbirds flying – Spitfire, Hurricane, B17, Catalina and other rare types are based at Duxford.

The Bonus days offer substantially discounted prices: qualifying types of aircraft (or pilots) will enjoy half-price landing fees and much reduced museum admission. Single or twin can land for £7; museum entry is £7 for most adults and children come in free. In the case of the some of the Bonus days, all light aircraft will qualify.

On Bonus days only, the Briefing Room and balcony on the first floor of the historic Control Tower is freely available for Bonus pilots and their passengers. The £20+ million ‘AirSpace’ project is now fully open – really a ‘must-see.’

Here are the plans for this year – make a note in your diary now:

April 12th: Safety Bonus Day – arrive in any light aircraft
May 3rd: ‘Pilot Magazine’ Bonus Day meet the folk from ‘Pilot’ (any aircraft)
May 31st: Cessna Bonus Day – arrive in any Cessna
June 14th: Flight Training Organisation Bonus Day – any a/c from an FTO
July 26th: Piper Bonus Day – any Piper Single
August 9th: Taildragger and any Jodel/Robin Bonus Day -- any of these types
Dec 13th Christmas Dinner Bonus Day

I will start a separate thread for the Safety Bonus Day, to give more details.

As well as Bonus Days, Duxford welcomes FLY-INs. Any group of pilots planning to visit Duxford can arrange special prices in advance, subject to a minimum of about 6 aircraft (for discounted landing fees) and/or 20 people (for discounted museum admission as well). This does not apply to event days, and it must be pre-arranged in writing with the airfield manager, Frank Marson.

Further information about the Bonus Days and information for fly-in visitors can be found on the web site http://duxford.iwm.org.uk/ which will be updated with 2008 information soon.

The airfield team will be delighted to hear from forumites (call for PPR and briefing 01223 833376) and to see you on the day.

Just for people who don’t know, I should declare my interest. I’m a casual FISO at Duxford. I’m also a pilot who thinks the place is pretty marvellous.

Alan.

I guess there's probably a good reason, but do they all have to be on Saturdays?

Hi Alan, I've got KC booked from 11:00 on 12th April so please put my name down. :)

Hi Mark:

There was a good reason, and that was to give a possibility of moving one particular Bonus Day last year to the Sunday, if the weather was bad. I'm not sure it's a valid reason any more. If there was some general demand for Sundays, I could look at mixing the days up a bit for next year.

I suspect it's one of things in life you can never get right.

Alan.
