Hi there, just about to by first headset for my PPL.
looking in to David Clark H10-13.4
Is it worth it to spend extre £40 for stereo? Does it make big difference?
I would not think about it if I would be shoping for Hi-Fi for lisning classical music but for flying?
Thanks for any advice

Only any use to you if the aircraft you are flying are wired for stereo jacks.

Most spam cans are mono only. You need a stereo audio panel and as far as I know only the GMA340 is stereo.

I had my aircraft rewired for stereo when the new avionics went in with the GMA340 Audio panel as I plug my iPod in and it sounds better in Stereo!!

Get the mono unless you want to use your DC at home with your stereo. All avionics is mono so stereo won't make any difference to your flying.

I have also come across problems with the stereo plug not connecting properly with the mono socket in some aircraft and had to get my headset changed as it had problems in one aircraft.

BTW, you can often pick up DC's on ebay at a considerable saving

Try looking at some other headsets.

Sennheisers are good and there is the new beyer dynamic.

I have always found the 13.4 a little flimsy and not very good passive attenuation in light aircraft.

Even in commercial aircraft, they are not very good.

Just my opinion. Its just people recommend them without a true comparison through usage.

Pooleys do an ANR headset with a connection for MP3 and mobile phone for
c.£220. It's based in the Pilot model and won an award i think.
