well, with the recent lay off by three airlines goiing under, there's a lot of hight time pilots out there. So For the time beiing, I don't think it would make a diffrance. But It won't last forever hopefully. I suppose if it's the job you want (flying Dash-8) well a rating is always nice for the employer( read saves them money $$$) :) <img src="wink.gif" border="0">

Good luck

I do not know where this myth comes from ... but Canada is not a good place for pilots ... no one is hiring right now and the pay scales are low. If you do not believe me, check some Canadian forums.

Well, not all Dash pilots are low paid. The recent ACR contract puts the Dash 8 pilots in Canada one step above anything else in North America.http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/wink.gif

As for getting an endorsement to get a job - there are so few Dash 8 operators it would make sense to call the chief pilot of each of them and get the answer directly.

I don't think a Dash 8 endorsement you buy yourself would put ahead of another pilot with your smae number of hours. It would only show you have a bit more money (or a LOT more money?)http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/frown.gif

But, that being said, there is one Dash 8 operator (based in CYXT) that you might wish to contact.http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/cool.gif

In my case I didnīt buy it. I donīt have that much money. I received it from an airline that is having some problems now.
Even if a person bought himself the type rating, companies would look at him as a pilot that can save him 20 grand or so. I know the DHC-8 type rating is particularly expensive.
However I do think thereīs a big difference between a pilot that bought himself a type rating and another one that received it from a company and has experience in the a/c.

Merry Christmas to you all.

You might want to look elsewhere. Air Canada Regional Airlines is the major Dash 8 operator these days, and I don`t think they care one way or another if you have a rating. They have a number of people interviewed and approved, who are in the holding pattern with no EFC for a course date. Blame Osama and the economy for that.

There are a few more Dash operators-- one is Air Inuit, another is Air Creebec, a third is Hawkair and finally Hydro Quebec. Any of them have only a few Dash`s. Pre-Sept 11th I saw ads for short term contracts for Dash 8 people-- 500 hours on type seems to be the mins for a FO.

Sorry...
nothin' happenin' in Canada as far as pilot jobs are concerned.
You can buy a Type Rating on anything you like.
No Time on Type? To bad, so sad, as they say.
Waste of Money!!

Take your 15 grand and invest it in the stock market. Wait 2 years and buy any type rating you want with the profits you'll make after the market recovers.

It doesn't matter how many Type Ratings you have. If you aren't Current On Type...you don't have much to offer. Except to the bank, maybe.

Hang in there. Things can only get better.

I guess I appreciate your thoughts but I am wondering if you read at least some of the replies...
I DID NOT BUY THE TYPE RATING. I received the training...I am not a rich kid and daddy is not a hot shot captain...the airine that trained me is experiencing some problems, thatīs why I am looking somewhere else...
