In monitoring the past situation with the crash at Fort Liard, and the fact that the
aerodrome there has little or no emergency equipment, it is very true that we still are
in our pioneering days here in Canada.
One article at http//north.cbc.ca indicates
the pilot of the downed Navajo had to be cut out with a hacksaw. No "jaws of life" for Fort Liard. This was after laying there for nine hours before being found-one km from the airport.
Even at our local CYBW (Springbank) has no fire engine to speak of. Check the CFS. No
fire engine. This means a firetruck must come from Calgary (Bowness) or Cochrane at least 20 min. away.
"YBW" must be one of the top ten busiest airports in Canada due to training and for touch and goes. I've done my PPL training there. Next time, I'll bring my hack-saw!
