So. Cal. Planes Collide Killing At Least 4

CORONA, Calif. (AP) ― Two private planes flying about a mile from an airport collided Sunday, killing at least four people, raining debris down on car dealerships below, authorities said.
The planes collided at 3:35 p.m. near the small Corona Municipal airport and a freeway in Riverside County, about 45 miles southeast of Los Angeles, FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said. Debris fell on car dealerships, and television pictures showed that the wrecked fuselage of one of the planes landed atop a parked car.
Witnesses on the ground saw the planes crash and called 911, Corona Police Sgt. Jerry Pawluczenko said.
It was not immediately clear whether the dead were aboard the planes or on the ground.
"We're going through the dealerships to make sure everyone's accounted for and nobody's injured," Pawluczenko said.

The collision occurred about 3:35 p.m. Sunday (6:35 p.m. ET) in Corona, California, about 40 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, FAA spokesman Allen Kenitzer said.
Preliminary reports indicated the pilot of each aircraft was killed, along with one passenger and one person in a car, Kenitzer said.
The crash left wreckage strewn along a commercial strip near the Riverside Freeway, Jessica Martinez, a worker at a nearby restaurant, told CNN. Watch video of the crash wreckage »
Eyewitness Jeff Hardin said the smaller plane "just disintegrated into pieces" in the collision, while the larger plane "pretty much stayed intact and started spiraling down."
"There were maybe 50 pieces coming down," he said.
The aircraft involved were both single-engine Cessnas, a two-seat Cessna 150 and a four-seat Cessna 172, Kenitzer said. It was not immediately clear which aircraft was carrying a passenger, he said
