Hi Folks,

I wonder if anyone out there can help with some clarification on a problem I am experiencing on a Garmin GPSMAP 496 that I recently purchased (Please no comments about why I didn't just get a 296!). The problem is that when I powered up the GPS for the fist time I noticed that the ATZ at Leeds/Bradford disappeared depending on zoom level and that some of the MATZ were also missing e.g. Church Fenton (EGXG) yet Linton and Leeming were not. The software that came with the unit was Atlantic database 0709 and following a call to Garmin support and going through all the setting (smart airspace etc) they suggested I update to the latest map at the time 0712 which I did but not change.

I subsequently swapped the GPS unit with the supplier. The new unit came with 0706 database installed which appeared to work fine as I knew it did from checking a friends 296 with that version on it. When I updated to the latest database 0713 I am now back to square one with all the same issues again. To me the problem is obviously one with the Jeppesen database but I was wondering how widespread and how come no one else seems to have picked this up over the last five months of database changes.

Can anyone with either a 296, 396 or ideally 496 and 0712 or 0713 Atlantic database installed please have a look at Church Fenton (EGXG) and see if theirs is the blue MATZ? also missing for Scampston, Waddington etc

This seems to be quite an issue, in fact I simulated flying an aircraft through the ATZ at Leeds/Bradford at 750Kts and it didn't even alarm??

Obviously these units are not for primary navigation but this seems quite disconcerting to me.

Any confirmations and comments would be much appreciated before I go back to Garmin who seem at the behest of Jeppesen anyway.

Regards

Ed.
