View Full Version : A landing fee would not seem so bad...

I read a lot of unhappy posts about landing fees here. Everything is relative!

During the 5 hours I spent clearing snow and ice from my runway yesterday, so I could get in 20 minutes of flying for the first time in a month, I had a lot of time in to think: How nice it would be to only have to pay a landing fee, and have all of this work done for me all of the time!

I'm sure that it is a bit annoying to feel the pain of landing fees when you fly, but think of it this way, you did not have to pay to buy the airport, the equipment, or maintain it.

Now I'm going flying again, before it snows more!

That's right. Yes we can all use the argument that we can fly much more cheaply from unmaintained, unlicensed, or disused airstrips or from grass strips but if we had to maintain them ourselves, would we fly as much?

I don't mind paying my landing fees. What I don't like is being ripped off. When I flew into a large airport in Easter 2006, being charged approx £120 for landing and handling just because I was out of hours by 5 mins was, to my mind, a rip-off!

I still had to pay 24 quid to put a pa28 at an airfield the other day and it was a lovely day . Perhaps the cost should go down for the amount of snow and ice clearing that goes on , this should make for cheaper summer flying :} yay!
