Gents,
could anyone please enlighten me on this one. I overheard from an instructor a few days ago that a DA-40 cannot be used for the CPL test as it is fixed gear, and you're required to do the test in a complex.
Is the above correct?

It is indeed correct. You'll probably find that any FTO offering a CPL on a DA40 will combine it with a MEP rating and the test will be done on a DA42.

As you say, everyone who has 40s seems to have 42s as well.

It doesn't apply to just the DA40 - no fixed gear aeroplane may be used for a CPL skills test.
