I'm fairly new to this airliner flying lark, but the one I drive still seems pretty quick to me. We often rotate at 140kts which is greater than the VNE of the aircraft I used to fly.

Anyway, I want to know what are the highest V-speeds people have had in their aircraft? I think a heavy 744 is looking at a rotate of about 170 kts but am not sure. I also remember hearing that Concorde 'took off' at 250 mph but I can't remember specifics - that might have been V2 rather than Vr.

A 767 at 185 000kg rotates at 168kts and a 412 000kg 744 rotates at about 172kts.

Don't know about other types - hope that helps.

The B707 was around that ball park at MTOW. Took a while to reach too, IIRC!:}

Returning from DBX to LHR recently on a B777 we rotated at 177 according to cabin display.

Yes when I was on the B707 (such nostalgia) we used to say it often only got airborne due to the curvature of the earth - it certainly felt like that on some take offs!

Nice picture RTO, looks like an improved climb heavy take off.

We never used improved climb until we got our EFB in September. Now we have to adapt to those comparatively high rotate speeds as well as to rotating in the red lights. It is kinda scary at first :)

L1011, JNB, flap 4 takeoff, Vr 181 knots.

B707-320, JT4A-15 engines, flaps 20, MTOW, Vr 174...and yes right at the very end of a 12,000 foot runway.

Airbusses do this interesting thing to protect engine out performance - they always try to go increased V2 which on a long runway can result in some very high speeds - 160 - 172kts on the 330.

Now as one of my colleagues suffered a tyre blowout at around V1 which damaged an engine and a hydraulic line - yep, a real life dual failure, I try and get the speeds back into a lower area - usually with no reduction in flex. you can either shift left on the page or get the computer performance from Ops - that (if you are not full) then sometimes has the opposite effect with V1 of 111kts and Vr of 116kts in a mid weight A330 :eek:

And I got 100% in Perf A ! Still don't understand it :ok:

Concorde V-Speeds

V1 ~ 160 Kts
Vr ~ 190 Kts
V2 ~ 220 Kts

(Approximate - depending on Weight, Altitude, Temp, Wet/Dry etc)

Tyre Limit Speed - 220 Kts
