Well what can I say, good luck to all who will join.
I can not believe they will hire SO and there are thousands of pilots who have Tuboprop time and will not even spit on them. What is aviation coming to.
I sent my resume the other day and was turned down God help that company.

Don't fret! it happens to the best of us.

Consider it their loss to have enjoyed the benefit of your contribution, someone else will no doubt pick you up in no time!

What's the old saying? Not every disappointment is a misfortune!

Is this cadet scheme opened to everyone? Can a foreginer from Europe or America apply to this cadet programme as well? Or are they expecting local(Arab) people to apply?

cool_pilot
9th Dec 2007, 11:04
CLOSING DATE FOR NEW APPLICATIONS IS BY 20-DEC-2007

According to their website, they want applicants that have done their training with well Known Flight Training School.

No IDEA about what sort of licences they are looking for but I would say they might prefer JAA issued ones.

Nothing was mentioned about hiring local or arabs, so I believe its open for everyone !!! yeeeeeey

Only the standard computer acknowledgement, but nothing from them, and to be honest I would expect to hear from them until Mid next year, but I could be wrong, I just based that assumption on their Second Officer Recruitment back in 2005, which was a very lengthy process.

Good Luck to everyone.

didnt the mail say that shortlisted people will be contacted within 90 days of closing of applications and if not cnotacted, that meant you were nto considered?

I agree with OMDB30R, the process of 2005 started in december 2004 and I was called only in 18/02/2005. And the interview was in 21/April.

$2k a month? That must be a  joke or the industry has taken another step closer to the overflowing toilet.

TZZ
15th Dec 2007, 04:25
EL Lobo solo, you should thank god they will offer 2k a month and give you full training and accomodation and its tax free what do you want more, i think their package is really good..

cool_pilot
15th Dec 2007, 09:38
I am not moaning about the conditions, it could have been alot better but still I will thank them should I be lucky enough to get a job with them.

OMDB30R

I can think of worst offers, I know a certain airline in the UAE, that pays thier Second Officers ZERO until they aquire 500 Hrs on type, plus you left to find your own accomodation yourself.

As a low houred pilot, it may seem harsh but, you cannot be choosy of how much you get, maybe in 5 yrs time, then you can sit a the negoiating table.

It could be even worse, NO PAY, but PAY THEM US$80 per hour:ooh:

OK, I must be missing something here. I'll admit that I know little about the company, their policies and their quality of life. However, if you're talking about being a cruise pilot on a long-haul fleet, for $2000 a month, that's pitiful. Who cares if you're housed in a dormitory free of charge? Unless there's some incredible benefit package (like free education for kids, medical for family, etc) that would add another $2k a month to this offer, it's not worth it. And did I read correctly that after 28 years old, they won't hire SO candidates? What's that all about?
If this is such a great offer, are people knocking down their doors to get in? Please enlighten me. I'm not bashing anyone here, but I don't get the fact that anyone would be willing to fly long-haul for what a poor turboprop probationary FO makes (and that's ridiculously low). At least there you're logging SIC time and learning some flying skills.
Good luck if you're happy doing this.
Oh, and OMD, those aren't even "offers". Have some cohones man. I'm assuming you're a PROFESSIONAL PILOT. Why would anyone sell themselves out for what you've mentioned here? Is this the SHINY JET SYNDROME dream again? sad.....

Successful applicants will be paid a salary of QAR 9000 (approx USD 2465) as a Cadet Pilot / Second Officer and be provided with Company housing, on a shared basis, or an allowance of QAR 6,000 per month in lieu of housing.

ummm FOs flying 320s at AirBlue get $3000...then there are taxs n stuff :p

$2400 for a 2nd officer isnt THAT bad:hmm:

and then the site says

A First Officer in Qatar Airways will earn an all inclusive average monthly remuneration package of approximately QAR 36,100 (approx USD 9900) inclusive of housing and other allowances.

so cant see what all the complaining is about...you wont be staying a 2nd officer the entire time your there...or are you :}

EL LOBO SOLO

I totally respect your opinion, but what I will NOT do is get into a debate on my personal opinion.

If you feel QR is a bad deal then its simple, DON'T APPLY!!, if you do then you are being selfish, by that I mean, say they call you forward and in reality you don't want the job because they are not paying you $8000 per month, somebody who wants the job wouldn't even get an interview because you have taken up the space.

With all due respect, with your attitude, it wouldn't suprise me in two years, you will be making the same comments on this forum, and in comparison I would have more jet hours than, and will be on a larger salary. and you my friend wouldn't have kicked start your career, as I siad I am no longer going to reply in this thread unless its beneficial to everyone else.

I really wish you the best of luck in finding your perfect dream airline. You may want to look at Emirates..........oh wait they require 4000 TT before you begin.

Just recieved an e-mail from a friend that work for Qatar Airways telling me about the second officer programm they are strating for 2008.

He mentioned that they are starting to do a scheme like the way Cathay Pacific is doing and looking for pilots around 1000 total time, still employed by a flying company, current, and under age 30. He also said they have recived a tons of application at the moment.

I don't know how specific they are about the requirments, but I would say everybody with a commercial pilot license should apply. :ok:

Good luck

El Lobo Solo
16th Dec 2007, 00:33
Fair enough. All the kids with a newly minted commercial license and 1000 hours should apply here. "Jumpstart" your career all you want. How exactly do you log that time to get to 4000 hours and make a decent salary?
Oh, and I've already got more jet time than you, OMD. :E
Nothing personal, I just think that pilots should be paid like the professionals they are. Maybe, someday you'll agree.

TZZ
16th Dec 2007, 00:40
i dont think u should have 4000 hrs to make decent salary, once you complete your line check you will be first officer i think it takes 6 to 8 months.

FP ACE, i have friends who fly with gulf air they started with 220 hrs cpl/meir did their sim training for 3 months and 3 to 5 months as second officer and now they are first officer, so i dont know what other airlines policy would be but what i know this is the way gulf air works.

TZZ

the airline is more than 50 years old, and its true you get upgraded from s/o to f/o in this amount of period.

i read the threads here and i have to say i have heard and seen people j

oining QR as second officer handling the aircraft after a few jump seat

sectors then after the program usual 6-9 months depending what fleet are

promoted to F/O!!!! so maybe some dont believe it or what ever but to

those out there willing to take a chance ir-regardless of pay then do it

cause lets face it how many jobs out there give low time pilot a chance

to fly new aircraft with various routes and get some what decent pay>>

everyone wnats to build hours so why not.

The best thing to do is call QR and ask them how it works (process) and see

What's the std of living like in Doha? I imagine that 2000/month wouldn;t go to far down there. What about for FO's....is $9000 a decent enough wage for living expenses and some savings?

I'm interested to find out.

I'm ready to be shot down here.

However, if QR was to employ a scheme similar to CX, then I can understand FP-ace's argument as CX SO's spend their time in the Jumpseat which can run to 3 years or thereabouts. CX SO's have a specific relief duty on long haul flights and they gather experience from that seat. When their time comes, they upgrade to the RHS (any CX people out there to confirm all this?).

However, here the SO programme has SO's training in the RHS and converting to FO quite quickly. They do not operate on long haul flights as relief. They do short haul flying from 10K to 10K in 320's.

IMHO, QR would be smart to use SO's the way CX does (if I have it right) thus giving newbies some decent airline operational experience.

why put this question on 2 threads, we do read more than one you know.

at this time I would normally tell you to use the SEARCH function as this topic has been covered hundreds of times.
So i'll just say.. do NOT expect an upgrade before 5 to 6 years to be very realistic and if you have 1 minute short of the 'present' 5000hrs TT then you will not be selected for the command interview either.

yes I know they tell everyone 3 years. With all good intentions they wish it could be that way but it's NOT
