Hiya,

I am a regular business flyer ( 5 times a week!) and tomorrow flying with Fly mayBe from LBA to ABZ on a Q400!! Oh yes the trusty Q400!

Weather for tomorrow predicted strong eaterly winds (nice!)

Never flown a turboprop in unsettled weather have I anything to worry about!? Petty BMi dont fly this route!

Also the landing gear i know it happens 1 in 10,000 cycles but I booked my seat to the rear of the plane to avoid any problems in case!

Thanks again for your time all.

EGNH. :ugh:

Good call on the choice of seat. In the event of a crash you'll be nearer the black boxes, and thus found first.

As for worrying about flying in a turboprop in windy weather, nothing to it unless you're chronically scared of flying.

Bad call on choice of forum, however - better SLF, methinks.

I believe that the Q400 was absolved of design fault, rather it was a SAS maintenance error that led to the gear problems.

I don't think you need worry about flying in turbo props, I spent many years flying them before moving onto jets. They are every bit as safe, sometimes probably better in windy conditions than jet aircraft. The only thing with them is as they normally fly at lower levels, they tend to suffer from turbulence a bit more. This is not unsafe, just sometimes uncomfortable.
Looking at the forcasts for Leeds and Aberdeen tomorrow. I think the biggest risk is possible disruption from snow. Every time there is any snow fall at a
U K airport, the authorities fail to deal with it. Just like on the roads.
Enjoy.

Thanks for the reply I appreciate not in correct thread but noone ever replies to SLF!!

No snow in Leeds as yet but guess as LBA has its own weather system it will be a white out there. Last time I flew Fly mayBE from LBA cancelled due to FOG!!!

Is that because in RVR conditions landing on 32 is dodgy?

EGNH - If you were so worried about all the things listed why travel with Flybe? I have to say you do seem to be a bit over cautious of flying for a regular traveler. Still, you have nothing to worry about.

Everytime I fly FlyBe I encounter a delay or problem! Work book my flights I dont have a say who I fly with. Normally Ryanair on the trusty 738 4 days a week which is normally on time and good flight, now got to go on a Q400 to Aberdeen in the death of winter!

When I got confirmation Email of flights I was like oh great!

Oh well could be worse next week flying Air Berlin!!

Most unfortunate - well have a good flight anyway!

My dear EGNH, I trust that after your Air Berlin experience you will have the guts to come back here and apologise for that statement. They are way way above Ryanair and Flybe.

A nice long aircraft in strong winds? I'd sit under the wing personnally, nice and quiet and no swinging from side to side:yuk:.
As for LBA
Is that because in RVR conditions landing on 32 is dodgy?
It comes down to being able to see the runway to land on it.
If the company is paying for the flight, sit back, relax and if you end up late or somewhere you weren't expecting it's your company's time and money not yours. Beats driving up there every day?
As for airlines to fly with, can't think of a single european carrier that I wouldn't fly with. More likely to die whilst driving (especially the way I drive:ugh:)
