HI,
Has anyone on here applied for planning permission for your own landing strip and what is involved! Any info will be welcomed! :)

Tanks G-EMMA,
Is the planning dependent on what land you have, as this land that i have does not come under the council, there is 1 airport but no private landing strips on here!

Under the 28 day rule, you specifically do not need planning.

If you want to go down the planning route, then everything comes into it. I would strongly suggest employing a very smart and locally well connected planning consultant. Reckon on a budget of £10,000 and 2 years to get the final planning consent. That should get you a grass strip (tarmac would be a whole new level of difficulty) with a specified movements limit.

I alredy have a grass strip 28 acres of it ,(NOT COUNCIL OWNED)So if I STICK to the 28 day rule there will be no prob! i dont need planning!!
i have some old private dissused roads running through it???(TARMAC)
does the 28 rule mean movements per annum! and what about the movement limit?

the permitted development rights - 28 is days of use per year, so if you do 100 circuits on the 1st of JAN you stil have 27 days left.

Do just one take off on the 1st of jan and you still have 27 days left...

If you are remote enough and have plenty of space and friendly neighbours then planning permission "could" be straight forward.

This may allow you to operate an agreed number of days (say 100) or an agreed number of movements (say 1000) A movement being one take off or landing. Of course if you put a good case to the planners you may get no restrictions at all.

If you already have the roads and there is no work needed to use them as a runway then you could get apply for an "all weather" strip :}

The planning system in the UK is an adversarial one so apply for everything and negotiate hard, thus when you "cave in" to a meare 150 days a year on a 800X10 meter tarmac fully lit strip the planners will be so happy they grant permission immediately.:E

HI THANKS DAYSLEEPER,
as far as the neighbours are concerned i think there is only 7 houses in the village and i dont think there will be any objections to me coming and going with the aircraft! as i am intending the strip to be about 2miles away from the village but was unsure about the legal side! Aircraft Noise! and what the regs are! i also placed an ad in the S.A.C Forum which i am a member but with scammers the Scottish Aero Club might shut down the site because the scammers took over it!

Hence PPRUNE forum! :ok:

Wings,

Give me a call if you want a chat - 0797 997 1301

I was involved in a failed planning application at Braco in Perthshire, know details about two successful ones in central Scotland and have been chatting to planners in Lanarkshire for new hanger etc at Strathaven Airfield.

The British Microlight Aircraft Association produce a planning guide for people trying to get permission for microlight strips, but it applies to light aircraft too. It is written for planners to read as well, since they often have never dealt with an airstrip!

(the building warrant people often haven't as well, so I had to provide a floorplan of our new hanger - which was four lines making a box!)

pm me and I'll send you - or anyone else - one of the half dozen copies I still have of the BMAA's guide.

cheers,

XA

Hi Colin,

Why not try for Braco again.

I would be first in line for hangerage.

At the same time you could buy Braco Castle and use it as "the" club house.

Colin.

ScottishFlyer 182 - Braco is back in use!

Former student Mark has a Flash 2 alpha there - but under the 28 day rule.

Buying the Castle might be cheaper than building the new hanger at Strathaven!

Gary,

Thought about the boat - would be nice to see some pix of the insides.

But mooring fees make hangerage look cheap, so not this year.

- Braco is back in use!

What's the possibility of a visit. Or is the castle owner still unhappy? Do you know if there is any hangerage available>

Cheers

Colin.

£10,000 if only.

Our local planners required us to conduct a noise survey.

£6,000 and no change!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SF182,

Mark has to guard his 28 days very well, castle owner still same person.

So no visits since if he is not flying then that knackers one of his days, I'm afraid.

Hopefully after a year or so things might get better.

Re noise tests: the BMAA has the noise kit it can lend members, a lot cheaper than 6k!

The council required a specialist independent consultants report so we couldn't do it ourselves.

Same applied to a recent challenge to a wind turbine application fortunately the council paid for an aviation consultant to look at the safety implications.

Most councils have no specialist aviation knowledge and to guard themselves they call for these specialist reports.

On the up side a favourable report helps your case no end!!!!!!!!!!

HI ERICFERRET,

If we are not allowed to do the NOISE test ourselfs why are the BMMA lending out kits to their members for a small fee!! :ugh:

I was told by a planning consultant once that a noise survey would be needed, and that an acoustics specialist would be called in, at a cost of a few k.

TBH the total cost of setting up a strip would be £20k+ anyway by the time you have levelled it, mole drained it, put in a ditch, maybe covered up the ditch, built a hangar... it's the ultimate in security against the future and airfields closing down of course but it doesn't come cheap.

Gary,

You account is set not to receive PMs.

ps. Booklet also in post to Sam

So:

Hi Gary,

Booklet in the post - don't worry about postage, it was only a first class stamp.

SAC is at Perth, where Marcus does 3-axis but I don't think has a machine.

We do three-axis at Strathaven too, using a C42 Ikarus.

So whe you are ready, give us a call. We can also do camping or other accomodation on the airfield.

Very best,

Colin

Sent you a email,
i dont know what has happened with the emails here, well i have been offered different types of aircraft i am trying to find which will be the best one!! there is a new club opened on stornoway (FLY HEBRIDES) but i am afraid they do not teach the 3 axis aircraft! (NO MICROS)
I will speak to marcus maybe i can get a aircraft but what kind i am unsure at the moment!! i will ask him what he recomends i have just sold a thruster TST MK1
i will definatly need accomadation but i will have to sort this out at a latter date i intend to get my licence 08 but there is a lot happening at the moment
