Was at AMS this afternoon and noticed a Great Wall Airlines 747 departing 36L. It looked like it was either dumping fuel or had smoke coming from the right wing. Another aircraft on frequency reported this to ATC but when we lost its TCAS contact it was still climbing. Anyone know whether it returned?

Almost certainly just fuel venting from the surge tank. Not unusual if there is a broken vent valve in one of the main tanks.
