Caution Flak on EGLL 27R

Dear constable

I was proceeding along the A4 in an Easterly direction admiring the precision final approach spacing when I am sure that everytime one of the winged beasts passed inside Hounslow numerous fireworks were fired. Then there would be a 70 second pause in said display (equating to a 3 mile gap) and they would start up again.

These were not little 50 foot back garden jobbies, but big Disneyland like 500 foot projectiles.

Bit early for the 5th of November, but it looked very hairy, couldn't comment if it is dangerous or not - maybe just stupid. But surely something could be done about it?

Anyway watch out for the next few weeks - not only Guy Fawkes night.

Don't forget their demo on the 24th November in Whitehall ... I think a counter demo of those whose livelihoods will be jeopardised by them should be organised... :D :eek: :D

I Watched the fireworks as we taxied out this evening.

While they seemed far enough away not to be a direct danger, they were so big and bright they must have been a visual distraction to approaching aircraft. They aren't easy to ignore.

We received a report via Ops from an airport employee on their way home that fire works were being aimed at arriving aircraft at MAN. :mad:
This, after an Airprox was filed last year on Nov 5th when an Airbus had one of those huge show-finishers go off directly ahead of him at about 400 feet. :eek:
The police up here are well aware of the problem but it is very hard to catch the culprits.

Fireworks are always early round Heathrow, there is an asian festive, which I wont try to spell.....of light just before Nov 5th....end result, well like a heavy night over Dresden!

Just landed at LHR on 27R and I have to say the flight across London was a most beautiful sight. Such a clear night you could see the displays from all over Kent, Essex, Surrey and Middlesex.

Stunning!

The rockets didn't seem to get that close, but I'm sure they could if they wanted too!

Has been more problems at EGCC with fireworks.

Those delightful cherubs from the surrounding areas trhink it's extraordinarily amusing to aim their "atomic thunderblasters" or whatever they are, at approaching traffic to the 24's. Also been some nonsense with laser pointers being shone into the flight deck of aircraft at the hold...AGAIN!

Maybe the time has come to ban the sale of fireworks and have it strictly public displays only?

Diwali is a moveable festival thats shifts regularly year to year.
I would however say that being the first week of november, i wouldn`t think that anyone would start fireworks because celebrations always start 2 or 3 days before Diwali and go on for about 10 days.

These guys under the flightpath to heathrow are obviously thugs and should be investigated quickly before they cause a problem as they obviously seem to be aiming at aircraft.
This year Diwali is on the 15th of November and so its around the 13th or so that hounslows asian community will really fire up.so fellow aircrew, make sure you have some good sunglasses cause the final approach to heathrow could be very distracting!

keep up the good spirit people, we need as much as we can get.
