Last Friday the wx was great and for the first time, Elvington fitted into the itinerary after some IFR holds, brunch in Wellesbourne and even Oxford before heading back to base with Vanhigher.

We had a great day and Elvington was the icing on the cake. It's great to see a taxi speed on the GPS and being on the ground....nowhere:D
You must get PPR and we were asked to make it p.m.
What an amazing airfield:ok:
Turning final to Rwy 08 after an initial flyby

Look out for a follow me to guide you through the cones - Red Letter type high speed driving taking place

They were very welcoming - if you need fuel both Avgas and Jet A1 are available, however arrange at time of booking.
Landing fee a very pleasant surprise and entry to the museum for the pilot.

Yes it's the home of the Victor and it was going to taxi under its own power the next day.
There is a Portakabin where you can do some planning and somewhere to eat and drink in the museum - can't comment as it was a brief cup of coffee, walk around the museum and back over Robin Hood southbound.

Look forward to another fine day and chance to do it in the single - OK VH ;)

Any idea how long the original runway was ? Looks enormous ! Circa 2 miles ?

Think it's in excess of 10,000ft.
Backtracking on 08 to the intermediate exit took a while and the parallel twy to the ramp just seems to go on and on.

There is talk of building maintenance hangars for widebodies - they'd have no problem getting off near MTOW:D

I think it's in good condition because the RAF were still using it as an RLG for Linton up to around mid 2001.

I certainly have seen JP's doing circuits there, don't remember Tucanos though..................
