hi there,
i'm looking for a website or some documentation that could help me to understand what is the phraseology used by UK ATC when performing a PAR approach...

Take a look at page 121 of this .pdf file:

http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/CAP413.PDF

I hope this helps.

Heres an example of what they sound like from a pilots point of view but dont take this as the legal way of doing it. I am only giving you an idea of what they sound like and what to expect. Assume you have been handed from approach to talkdown or a similar agency and are at a steady altitude and heading of 360 degrees. you should hold all headings as instructed but finess the rates of descent to maintain the glidepath.

Aircraft = AXX
TWR = TXX

AXX: TXX Talkdown, AXX heading 360 maintaining 2000'

TXX: AXX, TXX talkdown, 9 miles, on centreline heading 360 do not acknowledge further instructions unless instructed.

TXX: AXX 8 1/2 miles slightly left of centreline turn right heading 003 degrees.

TXX: AXX 8 miles slightly left of centreline correcting slowly.

TXX: AXX 7 1/2 miles on centreline turn left heading 001 approaching descent point. (Here you would normally have taken approach flap and you would select gear down depending on your SOPS).

TXX: AXX 7 miles begin descent ...(there is sometimes a pause so they get it accurate)...... now for a three degree glide path on centreline. (In still wind you would pitch for your standard ILS rates of descent)

TXX: AXX 6 miles, on centre line, on glidepath TXX: AXX 4 miles slightly right of centreline turn left heading 357, slightly below glidepath. (You would decrease your rate of descent).

TXX: AXX 3 1/2 miles on centreline turn right 360 degrees slightly below glidepath not correcting. (Decrease your rate of descent even further!)

TXX: AXX cleared to land runway 36 acknowledge.

AXX: Cleared to land runway 36, AXX.

TXX: AXX on glidepath on centerline three miles (resume normal rate of descent)

... This will carry on until you hear....

TXX: AXX, approaching decision height/altitude (normally 100 feet above)

TXX: AXX, Passing Decision Altitude

TXX: AXX, over touchdown (when you are about to flare). Contact tower on XXX.XX

The key to a PAR is to anticipate the calls, hold heading and vertical speeds accurately and to make the corrections as soon as you are asked to.

You might hear other things such as.

Well/slightly right/left of centreline corecting slowly/rapidly

Well/slighty right/left of centreline not correcting

Well/slightly below/above glideslope not correcting/rapidly correcting/slowly correcting or rapidly descending/climbing.

Also, its a good idea to have your mental check heights in the front of your brain. ie. 1 mile = 300' AGL 2 miles = 600' agl etc. There are many variables though and you must brief yourself about them well before you commence the approach. The other gotcha is some PAR controllers are very very good but others can be fairly average and will tend to forget calls like "approaching descent point" which is a key call to getting your config right for the descent if you havent already.

Hope this helps.
