View Full Version : To Fat For Diamond Star

A question for anyone who flys or instructs on Diamond DA40D aircraft. How is it possible to get the weight and balance into the utility range, with two average size adults in the front seats? This, it would seem, is an impossibility if the occupants weigh more than nine and half stone!
Looking at the documentation of the original test flights, it would seem that Diamond employed a specially starved test pilot for the job. Am I missing something? Has anyone else encountered this problem? :E

I flew with bricks in the rear baggage compartment.

why do you need the utility cat? Spinning (including incipient) is forbidden anyway. 10kgs in the rear most section (4.5m lever arm from memory) covers most 2 crew situations, 20kg covers "larger" types but you need to be careful about not exceeding the rear most baggage compartment limit.
